DS#1 is back home
A few years ago, some of you know that DS#1 joined the Marine Corps. I was devastated that he was leaving. I went through a depressed stage, but soon got over it and enjoyed not having to remind him to pick up after himself. Well, DS#1 has been having some medical issues lately and has been discharged from the Marine Corps with a medical discharge. I am so proud of him for wanting to defend his country. He feels a little lost right now because for the last few years all he has known was the Marine way of doing things. He started driving yesterday morning and arrived home this morning around 11:00. I am glad to have him home once again, but hopefully it isn't forever! I got used to him being independent and on his own. DH and I were just thinking that we only had 5 more years of raising our children, but it looks like it may be longer since they have a tendency of coming back! LOL! He plans to start looking for a job tomorrow. Hopefully he will get one quickly since he has a car payment and insurance coming due soon. He also pays child support (not court ordered) because he knows he needs to support her. I am thankful that he is taking responsibility for that.
Well, now we have 5 mouths to feed again. I guess I better start cooking more from scratch. LOL!~*Michelle*~

Michelle. I am glad he's home safe & sound, and it does sound like he is trying to be as independent as possible.
I hope he finds a job soon

Thank you all. He went out today to put in job applications. I hope he finds something soon because he has a car payment coming up. He begin to have trouble with asthma - breathing which alerted them to give him a medical discharge. At least he still will received VA medical benefits.
It is weird because I never had problems with asthma until I hit my 30's and now he got it in his adulthood too. I guess our immune system begins to break down the older we get.~*Michelle*~

~Good and bad news, huh? My bro served a term in the Marines, got out then re-enlisted when the Iraq War started. He was given a medical discharge the second time. He seemed to take it kinda hard, after all, Marines are all Supermen! But he ended up getting a government job in his base's town and that has worked well for him. He even started college. Is your DS eligible for college education free(is it under the G.I. Bill?)?~

Glad that he's home but hope he finds a great job and can be independent soon. I know it's not easy when one comes home but those marines are taught to adapt and overcome...so I'm sure it will go well.
Hang in there.

Glad he is home but now is not the time for inactivity. Besides completing job applications he needs to high tail it down to the VA ASAP and talk with one of the benefits counselors to see what medical/educational benefits he is entitled to. He needs to file for disability for any/all medical disabilities which occured while he was in the service, on average from the date of filing it takes 18 months before an award is made and a check starts coming. He may be eligible for all types of educational benefits.
ALSO PLEASE THANK HIM FOR SERVING OUR COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!Last edited by larabelle; 06-26-2008 at 08:11 PM. Reason: make additions

My boys are 22 and 24, and I can tell you that young men begin to get used to their privacy (well, maybe not in the marines, lol) and having their own lives. He will want that (I'll bet) and be on his own before long. But nearer to YOU so you can see him, YAY!
Isn't it great to get your arms around them when you haven't seen them in a long time?
Then they do this...
I'm glad he's home and doing ok. I got asthma as an adult too--age 37.______
