~I voted 3. My mom threw one, our church threw one and DH's friends at work gave him one. Can't have too many showers! We used everything we got too(well, except some bottles because I breastfed).~

No--in fact we got more stuff than we really needed. We had a very small house at the time and our living room was literally filled with gifts. Very generous of people, but we got so much stuff we didn't need/couldn't use.
We had one shower and then the restaurant I worked for had a party for me and another coworker who was also having a baby at the same time.

I had two: one at work and one from my family and friends.
We did get a lot of useful stuff, because people know I'm pretty practical. They bought unisex clothes in sizes that ranged from size 6 months to size 3T, and in fact, I just sent my youngest son to school today in clothing that I got at his sisters baby shower, 8 years ago!
The only un-useful things we got were newborn diapers because she was so big. But, we were able to exchange those, no problem. My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

I had 2, one was friends and the other was mostly family. I had one shower each for both of my other 2 children. I have to admit I loved getting the gifts. I was younger and was not so anti clutter so I did not mind having all the assorted gifts and misc in the nursery.
If I had all that in my home now, it would make me crazy.

My shower was really small. It was me, my sister, my mom, her two sisters and one of her sisters' two kids (who are a little older than me). I <3 getting gifts but they had to look at it in terms of whether I'd be able to fit it all back in my car on the way to North Carolina (I was in the Marine Corps at the time and owned a Hyundai Scoupe :lol).

I had one.
Got lots an lots of things.
*The most useless gift was the changing table.
*The most useful were the bottles and onesies.
*The most thoughtful was the handmade baby blanket.
If I ever have another baby, I only want one shower and I want it to be a "Diaper an Wipes Only" shower.DD (19)

We had 2 showers with my first one. He was 7 weeks premie, and I'd been off work for 6 weeks prior to that. We were BROKE. So when he came, I'd not had a chance to buy anything for him. I nursed him, took and old sheet and made a few diaper shirts, used dish towels for diapers with bread wrappers as the plastic pants. ( it was all we had) , and he slept in an emptied dresser drawer.
So, my family got together and threw us a shower- quickely. I got cloth diapers, some sleepers, receiving blankets. etc.
Then when he was about a month old, our church threw us a shower. We got the bigger items there -- car seat (they were not required back then, swing, baby bath, more clothes - all the way up to a 2T. It was fabulous.

I had one at my church, one for friends and family, and one at my workplace.
I had so many baby boy clothes, I laid them out on my bed and they covered the entire surface.
I was very thankful for all the gifts and made sure to write a thank-you note to all who gave.
BTW, I ended up trading some things in that were duplicates for more diapers. You can never have too many diapers.~Non-Mortgage Debt: $2,440.95~
