What do you like to do w/your kids & vice versa?
I liked reading the thread about everyone telling about their kids. A couple months back though I was thinking and wondering what my kids like to do with me? They are ds 11 and soon to be in Aug. ds 13 dd 14. As I thought for days and I came up with some things but then asked them what they liked doing with me. This is a tough age I feel and up through the teen years to beclose to them yet they are still trying to find who they are. The age between child and grown up. Now I mean one on one, not family togetherness things. Here is VERY little what I came up with.
ds 11, woking outside with the animals (we live on a farm) playing catch, him driving me around in the go-cart.
ds 13, the hardest!!I still really don't know on him, If we do something together he pretty much is still dong it himself, shopping, riding 4 wheelers, working....I am just kida a tag along
dd 14, driving some where when its just us-girl talk and things, working on projects for 4H, some times working with the animals, we do get fighty alot with each other but I am working on that. & cooking.
So as you can see these are things done together that we like, their is not much one on one time when the kids are that close in age. Its one thing for a 4 year old to enjoy coloring with you but when the kids are a little older???
So what do you and your kids like to do together, maybe it can give me some new ideas??Sandy

My boys love baseball, so playing catch is a HUGE thing here. We pretty much do it daily!
Other than that, just the basics. They love taking bike rides and playing at the park. We have skipped all the expensive activities this year like the pool, so mainly we've been hanging out at the park and the library, which they love!

DS10 loves for me to play a video game with him (he feels smarter than me that way, because he knows WAY more about the games than I do!) LOL
But he also loves to go on little mini-trips with me - to the store, etc. When it's just us. He also loves to cook with me, and has started becoming a good photographer with the digital camera, as he has been having me list his own items on Ebay so he can afford to buy the things he wants without me having to buy them for him.
DS16 loves to watch a movie with me, cook with me, take pics with the digital camera, ride bikes and go on the aforementioned mini-trips.
As a family, we like to find local attractions to visit, and since we moved 6 months ago, we've been exploring our new area. We've found lots of lakes and parks to explore, something new every week, it seems.

I have the same thing with my teens right now...they are trying so hard to be their own persons they want nothing to do with *gasp* parents lol.
With DD16 - we liked to knit together, talk yarn and knitting patterns, we also like the same music and listen to a couple of the same podcasts. We often read the same books, so we discuss those too.
With DD13 - she's the hardest one right now...She knows how to knit, but doesn't enjoy it so she doesn't do it much. We go to the library together, to the mall, she lets me do her hair. She likes to cook dinner with me. We also talk music. She's into a lot of the 70s-early 80s music. We do like a lot of the same horror movies, so we watch those when the younger ones go to bed
DS-10 - he also knits, but doesn't have much of an attention span for it right now lol. We play a lot of card/board games together: Go Fish, Sorry!, Uno, Bingo, etc.
DS-6 - he likes playing with his brother more than me right now lol. But we do play card/board games together. He also likes to make desserts with me. He's an eggcellent egg breaker

All of my kids love to bake and cook with me. I give them all little tasks and they love it. Makes getting dinner ready a LOT slower, but we're happy.

The three of them also love taking walks with dh and I. While we walk, we play games like "I Spy" and "What Animal am I?" We always end up at the park, which they also love.
The older two love to play board games with us. Doesn't matter what the game is, they're in.
Dd loves to make crafts with me. Doesn't matter what the craft, she just loves it. She also enjoys reading with me and watching Little House on the Prairie, and I use the term "Watching" loosely, because we chat about the show the whole way through.
Ds#1 loves me to play on the Wii with him. He also loves to just snuggle with me. He's a total cuddle-bug.
Ds#2 just wants me to be with him 24-7. Doesn't matter what we're doing...he just wants mama.My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

DS10 (the one a month older!
)
~he is all about video games....*sigh* so he likes me to play the Wii with him. I love doing puzzles, and have introduced him to this, so we both enjoy doing it together.
~he is also EXTREMELY well read, so he likes to share his knowledge whenever possible....he likes me to at least "act interested" in what he is talking about!
.....that is actually hard sometimes, cause it can get WAAAY over my head!! hahaha
DS10 (the one a month younger)
~he is my "spec needs" guy, he just likes to hang out with me. Watch TV (any Monster Truck show or video is his fav). He just likes to be with me.
DD2
~colour, watch TV together, read to her, dance to music together, she just wants me all the time.....which I LOVE!!Last edited by IntlMom; 07-28-2008 at 10:04 AM.
