Default What is wrong with people

I have a bil who I use to think was smart...... My sister and her husband might lose their home. She has been paying her share of the bills with her little ssd check but she is deal with someone who's ck is twice the amount of what she gets. He's pehind in the car payment and the space payment..... The only 2 bills he has to pay...... She found out he took a payday loan out in her name 300 2 of them. So thats 600 so now she is paying back 1200.... He still behind so now he tried to take a payday loan out in his son's name....... Hasn't he figured it out that he is paying 2 much for his buck and is not getting ahead. I looked into those payday loans and they want way to much tooo pay them back. If I was greedy and had lots of money for start up thats a good bussiness to get into..... But I can't see screwing people over. I still wish I knew what was going thru is pea brain.......

Boy it sounds like they are way out of control. I have a family memeber who is clueless of budgeting and not over spending. It makes you wonder how they can sleep at night knowing that they are way over their heads. Just let them take the fall sometimes that is the best way to handle it. Maybe once they get a grip and ask for help then I would turn them into the right direction.

Some of those places you end up paying back 2 1/2 times what you've borrowed. I loose sleep when I can't pay my utility bills. I can only imagine what that would do to me.

When I used to work in a credit union, I saw so many people get in trouble with payday loans. Really, it is legal loan sharking. It's really unfortunate that they are allowed to prey on people. I know they cracked down on them a few years, but I still think they are way out of control!

How was he able to get a payday loan in her name? Usually, as like any other loan, you can only get one in your name on your own bank account, unless they set it up so he could borrow in her name. If that is is the case, she needs to get in there and stop that, or trouble could be on the horizon. As it is, if she didn't authorize him to do that, she may not be liable for paying it back, if she didn't borrow the money! Legally, they can only loan money to her on her checking account.

If he took out money in her name without her signature, that is identity theft. She is not liable, and he has committed criminal fraud.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Sounds like fraud to me. If it were me, I'd let him cut and run and file a police report for identity theft, but I'm not very patient when it comes to this kind of thing. I know.....easier said than done. She should not be responsible for his illegally obtained debts. If she just lets it go now, and they find out she knew about it all along, she will be liable.

In a community property states, his debts are her debts. She might be stuck, illegal or not.

He's up to something. Drugs? Gambling? Online porn? She needs to give him an ultimatum. Fess up or he's out. I'd personally throw him out and file for divorce, and press criminal charges.

Well its not drugs,on line porn or gambling........when he goes to sleep she had her daughter go thru the computer. He was spending in on computer parts. And I know their electric was running 600 a month during the summer and they wanted someone to come out and check the meter and instead of putting away the disputed amount he spent it. Thinking it was meter........but it wasn't. their central air is so old that it uses so much energy. They were running it at 75. They walk around in the dark. My sister needs the air other wise she gets really sick.......So he was tring to take out payday loans to pay for his stupidity.......He has 7 or 8 of them all done on line........ I think they should be outlawed..... To many people use them and then can't pay them back.............I would never use them....... I don't want to payback something at twice the amount

I'm sure it won't be a pretty scene if she decides to take him to court with identity theft. Marriage down the drain, IMO.

Oh, it won't be pretty, but ...the marriage is already down the drain at this point. He completely betrayed her trust. She needs to think about protecting herself now. If he wants her trust back, he'll have to earn it.

She needs to file a police report and dispute the debts. Ferny, I honestly think the best thing you could do for your sister is to advise her to take these steps. Otherwise she'll just be enabling his bad behavior.

At least it wasn't drugs, porn or gambling but he still betrayed her and I agree with Greebo.

I'd have him arrested so quick for it.

I'm sorry but anyone who does it to someone else that they're related to is just undeserving of any forgiveness for what they do.
