Last December I moved far away from my family. They didn't treat my kids and I well, left us out of family stuff, took advantage of me when I had nothing, etc.
Finally i've had 3 months of no contact. They don't know where I live or have my phone number. I do have my brother on my myspace and facebook.
My girls and I have new family. My ex husband and his family treats us like family and we do family stuff with them. I can't believe all the difference it makes being around people that treat you good.
While it's sad that your family treats you and your kids so bad, I'm glad you at least have decent x-inlaws. I think all kids need grandparents in their lives.

I'm happy for you. I had to do the same thing with my family several years ago. Now I only keep in touch with the ones who aren't rotten. It's so much nicer this way and I'm so glad my kids have avoided all that nastiness.
Thank you just this weird fish being herself. Every ten years or so i need to move further out to accomidate my real self. Where i used to live people couldn't understand why I wanted to tear up the ground(garden) and put things in jars or store food when the grocery store was in walking distance from here. Now i want a greenhouse and chickens Oh My.
Someone once told me that my only birth defect (long story) was my family, and that's mostly true; I understand how it can be.
It's a hard thing to do, walk away from those you're related to by blood, but sometimes it's the only way.
Good for you! Bravo for making a tough call for the right reasons!
