My brother (whose a dentist) rule of thumb is check for the ADA approval. You know it will have flouride and cavity protection... But if you have a picky brusher... As long as they brush with ANYTHING is better than nothing...
I like closeup... It's not ADA approved, but I love the flavor.
I meant which one do you use on your kid 'thesightofoneself'.
Rebecca- Do you use Close Up on your little one too? That's not specially developed for children is it? Have you heard of ProNamel for Children? It's from the makers of Sensodyne.
Toothpaste is toothepaste. There isn't a difference other than maybe a mild flavor and a different box.
My whole family uses normal toothpaste on our kids.
Not true! ProNamel for Children was specially developed by dentists to protect kids teeth from acid erosion and cavities by working hard to re-strengthen the enamel on their teeth. Even juices and fruits are acidic enough to harm their enamel.
I'd advocate for ProNamel. Our dentist recommended it for ds when he was much younger. There are other enamel strengtheners (non toothpaste) out there that you can get (pricey!) but check with your dentist & see what he/she recommends for YOUR kids.
Your dentist will know what's best & can give recommendations... and if you state you're on a budget, they can give you other alternatives as well. HTH

Ok..
Pronamel isn't ADA approved. It could claim it will grow you a whole new set of teeth.
I just asked my brother about it and he says it's a load or Horse hockey to get consumers to buy it. He also said as long as you brush and floss properly you don't need products like that.
The crest kids toothpaste has worked for every child who has come through our home (well, the ones who have had teeth!). I think the flavor is sparkle mint-- but it's not a super strong mint that will make the kids' mouths burn.

I let my kids pick out their toothpaste. Last time they bought Crest toothpaste with Hannah Montana on it, it was pricier than other toothpastes but since they use it I don't mind paying more.

That's true, sealants and prescribed toothpastes can get pricey. Sensodyne ProNamel for children is priced competively to other leading brands. It also depends on the retailer too. There is a $1 off coupon at pronamelforchildren.com right now.
It is always best to consult your dentist if you are unsure that the toothpaste is right for you or your little ones. Plus, dentists can see any signs of acid erosion that are naked to our visible eye.
