Day 1 is drawing to a close so update! The Aunt ended up the least difficult. She pulled me aside this morning and said we needed to do a Costco trip. She more or less forced MIL to pick up enough meals for the next week that were easy to cook -- meal in a bag type stuff. A lot of eye rolling and snide comments, but I can ignore those. She refused my money at check out, so I'll take them out to dinner one night.
There have been a few minor scuffles that aren't food related, but DH has handled those marvelously. I think I can make it, lol!"Not all those that wander are lost." -- JRR Tolkien

Great going Joshin - of course you can make it!! And you may have some wonderful stories for years to come!! Cannot wait to hear the next episode!!
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

I would tell her this!!!
Life is too short to put up with picky, demanding, SELF-CENTERED people............in my house or not!
My rule is: MY HOUSE, MY RULES!!
I would also point out where numerous restaurants are if she doesn't like the meal. I have done this before with house guests!!

I have my house back!
We almost had a blowup a couple days ago over the fact I don't own an ironing board. Hey, I don't own clothes that need ironed, we work out of the house for goodness sake! I had an iron (I use it when sewing) and a little ironing pad for placing on a counter or table, but oh no. She went off about how we were living in the dark ages, and how I need to do this and that for her son and grandchildren. (I'm the primary breadwinner, DH does a little for our business, but he mainly handles all the home front stuff like cleaning and laundry and other "house wifely duties.") I was about to send them--mainly MIL, the aunt was perfect guest--to a hotel.
She made DH angry, too, and he took her aside and had some words. Not sure what was said in detail, I went for a walk. I came home to an apology and no more nagging. I'll give her credit, she tried really hard after that. She started to slip a couple of times, but she caught herself.
Overall, this was probably her best visit yet. Partially because her selfishness got nipped pretty early, and partially because the aunt was here. The aunt really kept MIL in line and under control most of the time. I didn't know the aunt that well beforehand, but after getting to know her I can say I had an enjoyable time."Not all those that wander are lost." -- JRR Tolkien

Sounds like she's the one living in the dark ages.

Next time you want to serve her pizza just tell her it is foccacia bread.
Sounds like the Aunt is more than aware on how her sister is. Glad to hear you made it through the visit. So the next time you and your husband will know how to handle things.

I would be very, very proud of hubby.
Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.
