What does the tooth fairy bring to your house?
I used to get $1, back in the 80's, my oldest, now almost 14, used to get $1 as well. My 5 yo lost his first tooth on Thanksgiving morning! The Tooth fairy left him $2 and a new matchbox car- though we explained the car must have been an extra special gift for having lost his first tooth. What does the TF leave at your house? Some of my friends report $1-2 at their house, some say $5-10. Curious what the 'norm' is.

~My ds's first teeth didn't fall out, they were removed by the dentist. We don't do the tooth fairy but we got him a $20 game as a reward for going to the dentist. We always do so the kids go pleasantly and cooperate. He had three teeth removed.
Then he lost another two but told me he swallowed them even though he knew he was going to get a $1 each for giving them to me. Money doesn't motivate him.
I suppose that how the tradition started in the first place?
DD followed his example and swallowed one of hers as well. She actually came and showed me the hole and said "yummy".
But about a month ago dd was distressed about another of her teeth being loose so I told her to yank it out, give it to me and I'd give her $5. She went and did it immediately.
I guess $5 is the price of motivation these days?
And she wanted to get to the toy store right away to spend it. She knew just what she wanted.
Now my almost 5 year old niece lost her first tooth yesterday morning and her dad gave her a gold dollar with some chocolate gold coins. But her mom probably gave her something at her house as well.
As cheap as I am about stuff, I will continue the $5 for a tooth. We rarely buy them anything and they don't really get an allowance right now so overall it won't add up to too much.~~Constance

My mil brought back from England a little pewter jar that holds four quarters in it on the lid sits a fairy. So my dd got a dollar for each tooth. I had some glittery stuff that I would sprinkle a bit where the tooth was. My dd thought the toothfairy left the dust too. For years when anyone asked what she was going to be when she grew up it was the ToothFairy!

Our kids are now 18 and 16, past the Tooth Fairy age. But, when they were little we did $5 per tooth. If the dentist had to remove a stubborn tooth or to make room for their orthodontic work, they got $20 per tooth for those.

Yikes, I feel cheap
We do 50 cents a tooth. It was a quarter when I was a kid in the 80s. we also don't do the under the pillow thing. Instead, the boys put their tooth under a glass on the kitchen counter. Most people I know do 50 cents or a dollar.
My oldest had a couple of his teeth pulled, but we didn't do any extra money. Never even occurred to me to do so, but I don't usually have to bribe my kids to go the dentist. Their dentist is pretty cool, with a pirate ship play house and fish tanks in the walls. They actually beg to go!"Not all those that wander are lost." -- JRR Tolkien

My son lost or swallowed most of his teeth that have fallen out. I think he put one of them under his pillow and got a dollar or two, but he wasn't very interested in doing that.
My daughter lost a tooth last week and was super excited. She bolted up when I went to wake her the next morning (she is normally hard to rise) and checked under her pillow. The tooth fairy left her $2.

~The word "bribe" does seem to imply that those of us who give more or reward are raising demanding or spoiled children. I hope you didn't mean that.
I don't bribe but I do reward. My kids are special needs with anxiety issues. With the rewards system we now have in place, they are actually starting to like to go. My dd even let them take X-rays last month for the first time.
I was a totally different kid than they are. I loved going to the dentist. I thought the work was fascinating and I was super excited to get my cheapo princess ring the dentist gave out afterward.
Our different kids need different approaches to motivate, calm and reward. I think it's awesome that your kids are confident enough to want to go. We're working our way towards that. ~
~Glad to see my kids aren't the only ones who've swallowed teeth. I tell people that and they look at me like I'm raising wolves.

I did not mean for the term bribe to offend, my point was that our dentist was so cool that just going in for an appointment was reward enough for them. Bribe may have been a poor word choice, but i did not mean it to be insulting. Slang use gone awry! In a way, I chose this dentist to bribe them into not having a fear of dentists (my husband has a major phobia and has to be knocked out for a routine teeth cleaning). We pay extra for him because he isn't in our insurance network, so in a way, I am paying them to go to the dentist. My oldest has some major orthodontic work in his future, so the last thing I wanted was for him to develop a phobia like his dad's
