    Talking I am still stunned!

My Son has just turned 17 - 10th January.

He lives with his father because we just never got on well and he left home at 11 He did come back briefly but it still didn't work and I made him go back to his Dad even though at the time he didn't want to and sat on my stairs crying asking me not to send him back (I remember this well and have tortured myself over it many times!!!) Despite all this I DO and have ALWAYS loved him. I thought he would grow up hurt and hating me and thinking what an awful mother I had been to him.

Anyway......... He only lives around the corner from me (although he will be moving quite far away soon )

Tonight is Saturday night and he has LOTS of friends and a million things a 17 year old could be doing, parties, pubs, sleeping out (all the stuff they love that gives you a headache LOL)

He rang me last week and said 'I know a really nice indian resturant and I wondered if you would like to come out for a meal?' I thought - why? It's not someone's birthday I forgot is it? So I asked him who else would be going there and he said no one Mum, just you and me!

Tonight he took me out for that meal - on a SATURDAY!!! and I offered to pay and he said 'No that's what I go to work for, I've never been old enough or had enough money to take you out and I just wondered what I could do with you that you would like'

Ok time to get the tissues now - How lucky am I? I have a wonderful Son, that I love and even at 17 he took me out rather than be with his friends or go see his girlfriend.

I am just so stunned and blessed and emotional I HAD to tell somebody!

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that is wonderful Bev, thanks for sharing that with us.
I know how hard it is not to have your children living with you. Keiko *as you well know* lives across the country with her grandmother, I love her right to death, I also worried she would hate me, but they are our children and they do love their mums.

Heaven - I didn't know that Keiko didn't live with you?

I have had with Oliver & Lucy (the two that live with their Dad) Things like 'oh I don't know why I came to see you - I HATE you!' etc etc. And I've only just realised it's the same Kid thing that the others do as well, it just hurts more because they aren't here so you believe them! LOL.

I have been so lucky - you know the thing on Olly's birthday with the new girlfriend buying expensive presents? I did speak to him about that too and he said 'yeah but Mum, she has loads of money and you don't and anyway you're my Mum and what you give me has sentimental value and if I had to choose to throw her present or yours in the bin, I wouldn't even have to THINK about it'

He is so sweet and so wise and I have been so lucky, I really can't get over it! And also it just goes to prove that most of what we spend YEARS worrying over never happens anyway!

You should be proud. Any young man that is as sweet and perceptive as yours will grow to be a wonderful man! One day (hopefully a few years from now) he will make some woman a very good husband and you wonderful grandchildren.

    You are all special!!!!!!!!!!

After I posted this thread in excitment I thought 'oh I just told EVERYBODY what a wicked witch I really am!!!' (Still secretly you probably already knew that LOL)

My Son IS special isn't he? I must remember those things and not take 'people' so much for granted!

Even here you have all been so kind and got the bit about how GREAT it was and skipped the awful pain in the beginning (((hugs))) (I prefer the huggy picture but I'm too lazy to find it! LOL)

It's wonderful you got a letter from Keiko Heaven, isn't it so great when out of the wondering and guilt and hurt they do something REALLY nice and you feel loved and appreciated.

I guess had I given it any real thought the fact that he was lucky enough to be taking out such a gorgeous woman on a Saturday would have been obvious LMAO!

I tell you it also stuns me that Cute & Youthful me would have a 17 year old! LMAO AGAIN LOL (actually giggleing here now LOL) Actually it REALLY does stun me that he IS 17 ALREADY!!! (Where did that time go to then!?)

It really is my Best Date EVER! I'm still smiling this morning!!! Happiness is the simple FREE things in life eh?

AND my SIL is really soppy over her kids, she always has been, (she used to cry when they got their jabs LOL) She is green too, she was saying oh I'd go out with my boys! That is so cute, Oh your so lucky!' and on and on and on LOL. My Son said now everytime she has a row with her boys she is going to say 'and Olly takes Bev out, you've never done that!' and he will get an ear-ache off of his cousins! LOL

I'd be lost without you ladies (and Mel ) You are all wonderful Thank you XXXXXXXXXXXX

Bev, it sounds like you had a wonderful time on your "date" with your son. He sounds like a fine young man, just goes to show you those terrible teenage years do pass!

What a great kid! I am hoping to go on "dates" with my two DSs soon. They are 9 & 10, so they won't be paying, but I hope they will want to go with Mom!
