Highchair to table, at what age?
I am wondering when your children moved up from the highchair to the table? I've noticed now that Ayla can climb up on the chairs, she likes to sit there and can reach things we put on the table for her like dry cereal...I think if we got a booster seat it might work out for things she needs to spoon...
Am I getting ahead of myself? I guess I can't wait to get this dog gone highchair out of our house too

heather,
our ds will be 2 in march and we still have him in a highchair. he just really isn't that mature yet....and it is much easier to keep him under control somewhat at dinnertime!
we have taken away the tray sometimes though and scooted him up to the table to eat. i just think it depends on the child. if you think ayla is ready, give it a try!! just don't get rid of the highchair just yet.
you just never know!!

Heather,
Emma never really had a high chair. We've always used a booster chair that has a tray for her. She was about Ayala's age when she started getting mad about the tray being on her chair so we stopped putting it on and would just push her up to the table. She is much happier now. These days we are transitioning her while we are out eating. She is getting too tall for the wooden high chairs in restraunts so we now ask for a booster seat. So far so good. I keep waiting for her to climb down but I now have special toys/books just for when we are out that I keep in the diaper bag. Her Dora The Explorer books are in there and she loves to look at those while we are waiting on our food. Let us know how it goes.

We never really used highchairs either. They sat in my lap untill they were old enough to sit in a booster seat. Just give it a try you'll know the first time if she's ready!

Jackson will be 2 in April and he's still in the highchair.he just knows when it's time to eat he gets put in there and will stand there (or climb in) waiting for us to put him in.
Sometimes for lunch I let him sit in the booster seat but he tries to get down and push away from the table.
Like Misty said..The highchair keeps him under control a little better.

Heather, Julia is the same way. She climbs right up in the chairs and sits there like she's gonna eat there. Yeah, right little girl! She would make an enormous mess. She thinks she's big, but it would be too much. She'll be two in February and she's still in the highchair.

I agree with the control. Otherwise they are climbing all over the place, like toddlers do, lol. You can also take off the tray like someone said and push her up to the table.
They also have those high chairs that clip right onto the table, and fold away for storage. I bought my mom one at a yard sale to keep at her house when she watches the baby. It cost me $5.00 and was brand new. Thrift shops may have them too.

Zachary was 2 and still in his hi chair, but we would often take the tray off and bring him up to the table. By the time he was 27 mos he was out of the hi chair completely. (his choice)

I think taking her tray off the highchair and pushing it up to the table is sounding real good now

I never used a high chair for ds. Everytime I'd put him in it, his butt would slide forward- plus I was always tripping over the stupid legs. Eventually- it turned into my "paper to be recycled" tray. So I gave it to a friend and let her be cursed with the stupid thing.
I used one of those booster seats with a tray and it worked out so much easier. His butt never slid down and it is so much more portable.

Ladies, I don't know if this will help or not. Some of your children may be too old to start this now. My mom always took an old bath towel, placed it around the child's middle and tied it at the back of the chair, not too tight, just enough to keep them in. Helped them from sliding out or getting out before you could get to sticky fingers etc.
