Question What were your favorite things to do as kids?

And do you still enjoy doing them with your children?

I loved playing hide and seek after dark outside(inside if the weathers bad)we played this with dd's friend and her when she spent the night a couple of weeks ago. When I was in daycare as a child we would play with shaving cream. Now my kids do this too, they have a blast. One time we used whip cream that was close to experation and open and needed to use it fast, after they ate it.lol We also put puzzles together,Lauren helped me put a 1500 piece puzzle together one time,it took us a whole week.By the time it was done the laundry was done but not folded,we lived out of baskets that week.

When I was a little kid, I was a TOMBOY. Back then, girls had to wear dresses to school, but that did not stop me in getting down in the dirt and digging out around the roots of big oak trees to make caves, etc. for plastic dinosaurs or cowboys and indians.

My mom always made my dresses and they always were gathered around the waist. Needless to say, I had more ripped out waistlines than any other kid I knew!

One thing I really loved to do with my sisters, was to build tents out of blankets and sheets. We would build them on the chairs and tables around the house. Boy was that fun.

I also remember playing around outside at night, catching fireflys.

We did the sheet tents too!! we played kick ball and baseball, we played with hotwheels and matchbox cars in the sandboxes, digging tunnels and garages (looked like caves) for them. we climbed trees and all the normal kid things. I hope to someday be able to watch ds and dd do some of the same things.

We used to play in the sand too building tunnels for the cars to go through and making roads. I also enjoyed playing hide in seek after dark with my cousins and playing inside if it was raining. What fun!!! We also used to catch lightening bugs at night. We played baseball, football, kickball and dodge ball. I play these things with my kids too.

I was always playing "school" as a kid... I'd line up all my dolls and stuffed animals and teach them. I had school books my mom had found at sales and such... a chalkboard... I even had an antenna from a radio that I used as a pointer. LOL What a nerd I was!
I had the smartest animals in town, though!

I played school all the time too. Taught my dolls or any kids that I could get to play. I wanted to be a teacher even then. I also loved to play with my plastic forts out in the dirt.

Hide and seek after dark (then the BIG kids would play with us!). Kick the can, hop scotch (my Dad would bring home big ole chalk from work about 1" to 1 1/2" in diameter), kick ball, and soft ball outside. Inside on rainy days we played Parchesie (sp), Monopoly etc... lots of board games, and Pitch, my Dad taught us this card game (Mom didn't like it and doesn't to this day, she hates cards!).

In the winter, we always built snow forts and had snow ball fights, lots of tobaganning, sledding, and building snowmen.

In the fall, we would rake leaves and dive into them or make scarecrows out of Dad's clothes!

As you can see, we did a lot of outdoor stuff. We even as young girls (the neighbors and my sisters and I) made potholders on the plastic looms, and sold them door to door for $0.10 to $0.25 cents! We had a ball as kids!

I loved doing many of the things already mentioned. I also did a lot of frog catching (or terrorizing), bird watching was one of my favorites. I used to hold a lot of mini concerts with me playing my flute. I loved creating dance routines. I loved chinese jumprope and lemon twist. (the lemon on a plastic rope that you put on your ankle and jumped over). I loved my old pogo stick. I loved playing tennis and roller skating too. Gathering nightcrawlers for fishing and tons of watersports like fishing, skiing, tubing, boating.
I loved board games like crazy and loved wooden tops. Paddle ball, hippity hop, tons of card games etc. Geesh. I could list things all day.

The kids are still young, so we are just beginning to do some of these activities. Zachary loves the blanket tents.

(Sewcrafty and here I thought I was the only weird one with the plastic potholder loom)

Nope Sara, and believe or not, they still sell them! I got them for my niece and nephews and they loved them too! My niece even sold them door to door too, only she charged $0.50 each! Inflation!

I purchased a yarn loom quite a few years ago (I still have it here somewhere?) You snap different sized pieces together and weave yarn through it. You can make placemats, potholders or put them together and make afghans!

We played hide and seek, freeze tag and chased lightening bugs. We also played twister, monopoly, trouble, and I remember my aunt giving me "mystery date" and playing it over and over for months. I was always so disappointed when I ended with the dud, LOL, I had not thought about that game in years, it is making me smile as I remember it.

I had that potholder thing too LOL, and I know they still sell them at Michael's.

We used to love to play outside. We'd play kickball (my favorite), jump rope, hide and seek, just about anything.

When the weather was bad, I used to play school inside, play with my Barbies, read, color and other crafts, board games (Monopoly, Clue, Trouble), cards, things like that.

I do many of these things with my girls now.
