more on Roman (child of the week)
Roman needed his physical for Track. So we went to the Drs. today, they had an opening, he weighs 195 1/4 lbs. he is 5'6 1/4 ( I am 5'7) so i said to the Dr. What can we do about his weight, And he said stop feeding him. the child is 14 years old. *and myriah was just there last week and she is UNDER WEIGHT). I said it isn't that i am feeding him he doesn't get outside, he refuses to go out and do anything he said to take the play station and the gameboys away. I don't think that is the answer but he did put on his phyical that he is OBESE in huge letters. So i am feeling like the worst mother in the world.

Heaven, my ds#2 (Shane) is a big boy too. He is about 5'6", and weighs 200 pounds, He is 12 and in the 6th grade, I have the same problem with him and physical activity. I feel bad because I think I did it to him. When he was little, we splurged by going on dates and having lunch. I think that I made everything revolve around food and now his world does. I have heard the obese words, about both he and I. Our fight tonight is because he does not want chili, he wants to go and fix up something for himself and I will not let myself. Having an overweight child is very hard on the mother, believe me I know. I think the best we can do for them for now is to encourage better eating habits and unconditional love. I love you Roman.

Well we have totally changed our eating habits since we moved here, We use to do take out 5 nights a week and we just have no where here to do it. we also use to go out to lunch or supper. but i did inform him tonight that he eats supper and NOTHING after. But also his fathers family are ALL really heavy and i think there must be some genenic thing there too. Thanks I do love him to death, and I don't buy all the junk that i use too. I just wonder if another thing i should do is try 2% milk instead of whole. I have to do something and maybe him being in track will help too

Look at his portions and how often he is snacking. This is where Raechel had a problem. She was 128 at 4' 10". She has cut back her portions and cut out candy, meatballs, cheese, etc. for the most part. She has lost weight and feels better, although she could lose a few more. She looks great.

Heaven, at least he did it! WTG Roman!!! DS had a slight weight problem he's 5'1" and weighs 97 lbs, he thinks he's fat and has deceided on his own to do something about it, so he runs for about 45 minutes everyday, He wants to go running with DH but that's at 4:30 in the morning! I think he needs to sleep on school days.
Tell Roman I am proud of him and I don't want him to EVER give up on anything that he wants to do, especially if it's good for him!
We Love You Roman!! Keep it up, you can do it!

just encourage him to stick with track. if he gives it time and tries his hardest, he'll catch up to the other boys and won't be last anymore. i agree that you need to look at his portions. most people eat too large a portion. get a kitchen scale and measure out the portions for everybody. after a while you will get used to what a portion should look like and you'll only have to weigh food every now and again to make sure you are still portioning right.

yes I do have to start controling his portions and I last night said NO SNACKS after supper and Myriah started Ratting him out every time he went to the kitchen to get something. But he needs too take it off. I am very proud of him getting up to the store and back and not giving it up. I will tell him tonight after track what you said Ellise. thanks for the encouragement.

We have an opposite problem with our Martin. He is 13 and very skinny (underweight). I am trying to feed him as best as I can, but he still does not gain weight much. It makes him sad, too, so I know how you feel.
My best wishes to you and Roman

Heaven...drs can lack humanity some times....The best thing to help Roman is not to nag him and make him feel bad about his weight. *I know*........
Take one step at a time. Slowly you can find ways to make want to be more active by doing fun things. Maybe you could go take a walk every evening, as a family?
((hugs))
Good luck!
