Kids swearing?
I have, being honest, been through this with all my kids.
But Charlie is different! He LOVES to swear!
I've been through all the things that worked with the others, that's not nice, please don't do it, Time out, taking things away, keeping him in - etc. etc. and LOTS of etc's.!!!
But you can see in his eye's it excites him and he doesn't care what the consequences are going to be.
I tried to be grown up about it LOL - and I sat down with him and said ' You KNOW it isn't nice, WHY do you keep doing it, it is getting you in LOTS of trouble' and he said He can't help it because those words have such a nice sound!
When I know he's about to say something now I say Oi! and you can see him thinking about it and he just grins and says sorry I HAVE to and goes ahead!
We are not talking everyday cussing here but REALLY colourful 4 letter words Like F and C !!!!!
I don't know what else to do???? Any ideas?

I am of no help. I can't get my dd#3 to quit telling people to *is* off. She's 3 though so she does it to get people riled up I think our best course at this age is to ignore it. Good Luck Bev.

Every time he says it make him put a quarter in the swear jar or make him start at the front of the dicitionary and copy down 10 words and the meanings, maybe that will make him think twice about using the other words..lol.

Thankfully my girls haven't done this, hopefully they won't start. Sending hugs, Bev. I don't have any advice.

My parents told me swearing was an indication of a lack of intelligence and ignorance to proper vocabulary and usage of the English language. If we were in public and someone swore...I'd think...oh they must not be too bright. lol
To this day I still think about that when someone swears. If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. My Dad told me the same thing!!! I've passed this knowledge onto my sons and told them that there are so many words to accurately discribe how you are feeling without swearing!Originally posted by smnoel

Bev, lots of

You need to find a punishment that he absolutely hates and then stick with it. Those words are not appropriate and he needs to know that.
I like the punishment of the dictionary - that just might do it. Only make it a few more words than 10.
Sara, I remember the bar of soap. Hmmmm wonder how I know.
