Zachary is starting swimming lessons
I know this is pretty common for a lot of kids, but I am so excited that he's starting swimming lessons.
In the past, he's had sensory issues that made him absolutely hate water. Last year, he loved being in the water and starting in Mid-April he'll be taking swimming lessons.
Our local community center offers red cross certified lessons. His first set of lessons will cover things like pool safety, listening to the instructor, basic swim, etc.
I loved swimming lessons when I was a child and am hoping this is a positive experience for him. I want to be sure both my children know how to swim and are able to save others in an emergency. If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. When I went to an elementary school in Tacoma WA they had a couple weeks course on water safety and basic rescue class. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the classroom teacher that year or the name of the school, but I do remember the water rules and how to pull someone from the water, I didn't even learn to swim till much later, lol. It was a wonderful class and one that will stay with me forever. Glad to hear Zachary is going to go to swimming lessons too! I hope he enjoys the classes and has fun too.

It's a drop off series of lessons. It's not private, so I think if he sees other children enjoying it, so will he. But if one child hates it, I can see him following suit.
We talked about it before I signed him up and after. He mostly said he didn't want to be in deep water or go under water.
He hasn't ever put his face underwater. We tried getting him to blow bubbles last year and he wasn't into that one bit. I don't want to push him. If he doesn't like it, I'll pull him out of it. I'm just really hoping he does.If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Great news Sara. I hope Zachary loves his lessons and has a great teacher. Ryan took them when she was younger at the YMCA and she really learned a lot. She's a quick little swimmer now.

I hope he enjoys them Sara and it is a positive experience. I hope the teacher understands that he has sesnory issues, so he/she will push him into doing something he doesn't feel comfortable with.

Good for him! Such a feeling of accomplishment when kids make those steps to try something new. Hope this is the start of a lifetime of loving the water.

I bet Zachary loves the swimming lessons. It will be fun for him. Will he know any of the other kids that are going to be taking them? I bet he will be swimming like a little fishy by the end of the summer

I hope Zachary will enjoy the swimming lessons!
I remember following a few lessons myself when I was young and I loved it!
I kind of regret myself not putting my boys in swimming lessons....I was thinking of registering Patrick for some lessons...He has shown lots of interest about it...he keeps talking to me about it.
Tell us how it goes for Zachary, Sara.
