Oh Misty that's always such a huge thing for moms. You'll get it under control. I don't know for sure but I've heard that RID works good.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

Pick up some Tea Tree Oil at GNC or Vitamin World and add a few drops to the kids' shampoo. That'll keep 'em away (after you get rid of them).

Make sure that you are washing all her bedding in really hot water and dryng it on high heat so it kills the eggs.

Misty, ask your pharmacist, too, they might know what works best to get rid of them. I also learned that putting the clothes in a completely closed plastic bag with no air openeings for 24 hours kills all lice or lents in clothes. Then you can wash the clothes in hot water and it must dry 40 minutes in the dryer.

This is what my friend told me just yesterday. She was called on tuesday for 11 yr. old son...he had some too. What's weird she and her other son don't have any, but she didn't take any chances and did the treatement for herself and her two sons.

I hope this helped, Misty. But be sure to get all the info you need. I'm no expert and I never had to deal with this, so this is what I learned from my friend.

    Goodluck.

Oh gosh..I am so sorry! Ashley had this when she was small and I know what you're going through. I'm the type that can't stand stuff like this.Makes me nervous..so nervous in fact I get sick lol

When she had lice,I used NIX..when I bought this it came in a box with shampoo and a comb I think.. and RID spray.SPRAY everything..carpets,inside closets, behind the couch I mean EVERYWHERE and leave the house for the time it says to.Wash everything..Clothes,towels,bedding,even clean clothes and bedding in HOT water!

I'd keep her home tomorrow. If she's getting this from someone at school, she'll just continue to get it.make sure SHE is free of the lice!
Schools here sends the child home that day and they can't return until it's all gone.....
    GOOD LUCK!!!

    Misty,
Two years ago Alex got a really bad case of lice. The child she got it from had it all the time and so that strain was very resistant to treatment. The school nurse told me that lice has become very problematic so the lice are gettig stronger and stronger to the chemicals. After three days Alex still had the little buggars running around on her head. It was a full two weeks until they were gone and then you have to be careful to have gotten all the eggs because that is when they hatch,10-14 days.

Here is what I did. The nurse gave me a fine tooth comb with metal teeth. The ones that come with the RID kits are crap so after 2 days with that I gave up. I know I have seen these at W*M for about $6. First I sectioned off her LONG hair into about 8 sections. Then I went through each section like you would when you might roll a perm. About 1 inch strips and maybe a 1/2 inch thick. After each run of the comb, dip the metal part in rubbing alcohol. Yes, this is drying to the hair but it was all I could find that worked. We did this everyday for 10 days. Poor Alex was so patient and her head was so Tender. I tell you though it works. We also changed her sheets everyday and cooked her pillow in the drier, vaccumed the couch and all the rugs. She was allowed in only 3 rooms through this time.

I can not stress enough to NOT use the chemicals on her head more than the one reccomended time. These are chemicals that are going straight onto our chilrens head. I'm sure you wouldn't do this but let me tell you after a week of doing this it mught look like the easy way out. LOL
I did try the mayonasie all it did was really make Alex NEVER want chicken or egg salad. We had that on her head for three hours and she had soft hair with lice that probably felt like they had a day at the spa.

Good luck this is one of the most yucky things I have had to deal with at our house.

    Marcia

I was going to suggest Tea Tree Oil too. It keeps them out of your hair.

Also make sure you wash or use the bedding spray for lice on everything.

    Good luck!!
