Help me think this out, PLEASE(long)
I work full time nights. It worked fine untill now(well this school year) I have 3 kids 10,6,4 so I am home with the 4yr old all day then I pick up the kids at school and drive to my work parking lot and DH and I trade the kids and they go home and I go to work.
Last 2 years I worked this job from home so I ate dinner with the family and knew generally what was going on. Now I am in the office and will be.
So I never see my school age kids, so I am thinking of putting 4yr. in daycare (she would love it!) she has been asking to go to school for 2 years now. And working days. So dh would get them off to school and I would pick them up and then we would all be home at night. But that would take aprox. 1/4 of my take home pay for daycare, I would have to find care for days school is out.
AND I hate, hate hate my job, BUT it has the flexible hours that allows me to change them. Like in the summer I can switch to nights so I wouldn't need to find summer care.
ANd the job is now 45min to 1hour drive one way (since we moved to the new house) so I would kind of like to just get a new job closer to home but, the hours would not be so flexible, at least not for any of the jobs I have located so far.
So what should I do, or what else should I think about?
I am just torn, I want to be with my family, we can not live on dh's salary alone, I am not even sure we could live with 1/4 or mine going to daycare. But I miss my 2 older kids, and only my 10 is doing activities cuz Dh just can't be in 2 places at once.
4yr will be in school all day next fall so for sure I will be working days next year, but what do I do now.
Thanks for reading my rambling, let me know if you have some insite, THANKS

Can you find another job? This one is so far away. Could you make do with a part time job?
1 the job is too far
2 you hate your job
3 you want to spend more time with your family
Anything open at school? Career change? You can do this Kim! I'm cheering you on!!

Woud you save money on gas by finding something closer to home?
Just a thought

yes, the round trip is aprox 100 miles so at least it would save one tank of gas a week. (aprox. $30.00 a week right now)
Sooo... that would knock the daycare down 30.00 a week, kind of. hummmm....

Thats a hard one. You need the income but you still need to spend time with your children. I think I'd look into finding something closer and working days.
Thats just my opinion. You have to do what best for your family.

I work nights too. We have never used daycare. I am homeschooling Molly this year, so I get to see her alot. I never get to see my DH, however. On the nights I am not working, he is taking classes at the community college until 10:00pm.
I wish I had some advise for you, at least next year you will be able to work days during the school year. It is good that your employer lets you change your hours around to accomodate your families needs.
