Smile Today is the big debate...UPDATE

on Capital Punishment that my kids are taking part in. Their team was asigned the position of being against capital punishment and with the whole Scott Peterson trial, verdict and sentencing recommendation it has all proven to be very timely. I know the kids are well prepared and all but Jaysn is not feeling well and is running a fever and I'm under the weather myself. Please pray that the kids will all do well and that Jaysn and I will feel better. I just feel awful for Jaysn.

Does that mean that you won't even get to see the debate? It stinks that you and Jaysn are sick!! I would love to know how it goes - what is their real position on capitol punishment?? Are they going to debate what they actually believe in or do they have to take on an opposing positon from their real views?? I always wanted to join debate club but I was painfully shy so I just kept all of my views inside people from school laugh now cuz they thought I was dumb!! I think your boys should get alot out of this!! Is it through the school or church - I can't remember where you said you hooked them up with this.

Chirs and Josh are going to the debate with the other team members. Jaysn and I are going to stay home unless I feel better later and then I will drive in to watch. They are doing this through a class that is being given by a church that the other team members goes to on Christian Worldviews. I have to admit that when we started this we were all pro death penalty in certain cases and the more we researched it the more we are convinced that someone must be proven guitly beyond a shadow of a doubt with real DNA evidence before the death penalty should even be considered or they need to be a serial killer.

Jaysn and I ended up staying home but we did get a report on how the kids did. They lost by 3 points but one of the judges told them that he thought they should have won by 3 points. All in all, both sides did well and it was a pretty subjective thing to judge and personal biases do come into play. I'm proud of both sides for presenting so clearly and as far as I am concerned, they are all winners.

It's a good thing Jaysn and I were home because our Hawaii kids drove out to see us today as a surprise. They brought the boys out Christmas gifts and brought some goodies for the whole family. I got to meet the younger brother of one of my Hawaii kids so of course I adopted him on the spot. He's a bit wild and I'm afraid I may be bailing out for being a minor drinking, but that is a risk I am willing to take. I feel like the more time he spends out here with us having fun without alcohol, the better for him.

Sounds like it went really well then Debbie! I am sorry you didn't get to see it and that Jaysn couldn't participate.

How great that your Hawaii family dropped by. Sounds like you will have to keep us posted on the youngest. After watching my BIL in his "wild stage" I know its not easy. I will keep you(and him) in my prayers.
