My nephew will be 4 in July and neither one of his parents have even attempted to potty train him.He will go to the same prek as dd,its in a daycare and I know that in order for a 3yr old to move up from the 2yr old clas to the 3yr old class they need to be potty trained.Do you think this will be a problem for them esp since probably all the kids in there class will be potty trained.DD was 2 when she was pottying on her own during the day and at night we waited until she was 3 cause she wouldn't wake up at night to go potty.But when we started at night it was no problem.Are boys really much harder to train than girls.It was pretty easy for us with dd.
I have heard that boys are harder to train than girls. My older dd was fully trained (including night) when she was 2 mos shy of 3 yrs old. It took a loooong time to get to that point.
My younger dd will be 2 1/2 next month, and is pretty much trained. I think she'll be fully trained within the next month or two.
I would think that your nephew's parents will have some difficulty if they haven't attempted training yet. I don't know...I've never met anyone that waited that long to start. You never can tell, maybe he'll be so ready at this point that he'll pick it up that much faster.

one of the boys is totally TRAINED. the girl is on her way BUT only goens when I say okay it's time to try and sometime she does and sometimes she does.
my other son is no where close to training even though I try, he sits on the potty and trying but will go as soon as the diaper is back on...
I have tried EVERYTHING!! to train too and some of it is just not working.. The preschool they go to has said they should be trained by now BUT I really have tried EVERYTHING, bribes (candy, stickers) putting them in regular underwear go they will feel wet and soiled but nothing is working for 2 of them..
Any suggestiosn would be appreciated!!
They are now 3 1/2 (will be 4 in September) and looks like Zachary will still be in diapers at 4...

OMG this is a sore spot for me. My DD's were totally trained at 2 1/2. My SIL finally got around to training my niece at age 4. Now my nephew is almost 3 1/2 and is interested in going potty, but I think she (SIL) discourages it because she can't be bothered. Why would you do that? I had him going potty at my house last fall, and I got in trouble for encouraging him. "Thanks alot, now all he wants to do is go potty". This is a bad thing? Some people.
Some kids are slower training. My DH was 5 years old according to his mother, but he had some problems going because his mother didn't cook anything with any fiber, and he was afraid to go. Poor DH, he has some issues with the way he was trained.
My ds is just recently completely potty trained! WooHoo! He turned 3 at the beginning of March.
He had been going tinkle in the big boy potty (regular toilet) since last August, but he absolutely refused to go poo-poo in anything other than a diaper. Shortly after he turned 3 we told him that when the current supply of diapers ran out that we were not going to buy any more because he was a big boy now that he was 3 and he needed to start going poo-poo on the big boy potty. He fought it as much as he could and he would poo-poo in his underwear, but a little over two weeks ago dh had a breakthrough with him. Dh promised ds if he would start going poo-poo on the big boy potty that he would buy him a Scooby Doo dvd (which is a really big deal because we do not allow ds to watch Cartoon Network) and the Cinderella II dvd. Ds took dh up on the offer and from that moment on he was completely trained! (Never mind that I had been trying for months to bribe him! *sigh* LOL!).
Well, I'm trying! lol DS is 2 1/2, and likes to sit on the potty, but has no interest in making a deposit!
Whenever I mention going pee pee in the potty, he looks at me like I'm a moron, and says "Mommy, I go pee pee in my diaper." *sigh* I suppose we'll get there eventually!
Mustang80 that sounds just like my sil,they won't even atempt it.And last fall I had him over one night and he went potty not once but 5 times!He was so proud of himself.
sixfreds-WOW triplets what a job in itself I think if you are trying that is a totaly different story,it is probably harder to train 3 than 1 too.For us what worked was the naked method(ok no flaming lol)we let dd run around with a long shirt on with nothing on underneath all it took was one time going potty down her leg and swhe decided that the potty chair was better,when I am around my nephew with dd she always wants him to go to the bathroom with her(except lately,good touch bad touch talk a few weeks back)and he seems really interested i think most of it is the parents won't take the time.Oh and don't use pullups Lauren used to call them diapers,and thats just what they are and they know that.

My son is now 19months old. He started at 17months...he was doing well for a few weeks, then, nothing! He was even wearing pull ups. Well, we are back to diapers! He only went "poopie" once in the potty. He liked going "peepee" He used to point to the toilet, go "teetee,,,,his word for peepee" then he'd go...then he'd flush and wave bye-bye...he could care less now!!
I work with 2 1/2-4 yr olds in a preschool program. There are kids that are 2 1/2 that use the bathroom all by themseves...then there are some 3-4 yr olds that we have to call their parents to come change them because they did poopie in their diapers. I know it's hard to potty train, but I have an almost 4 yr old girl that wants to use the potty at school, but can't because if she takes her diaper off, and throws it out, our rules state that we have to call the parent, and her mom won't come back just to bring a diaper. One time she peed so much that her diaper fell to the floor because it was so heavy, that is just pure laziness....
I have 2 girls, 1 boy and I can tell you that boys are definitely harder to train than girls. BUT if they haven't even attempted it yet, how will they know if he's willing to work with them? It seems like (if my memory serves me, which is usually doesn't) that the girls were about 2 1/2 and ds was about 3.
Kahana we used that sort of bribery whenever we could too. It's amazing what will work at times.
Sixfreds maybe when 2 are completely trained the other one will have "training envy" if they get a little treat on occaission for pottying like a big boy, etc....? I know it sounds a little mean but if it works I don't think it would cause any lasting emotional scars.
Good luck there. That has to be sooooooo much work. Hats off to you girl.
