    Default Whiney little girl...

UGH, dd is driving me crazy. she is whining about everything from "whhhhere arrrrreee mmmmmyyyy shhhhhhoooeesss" to "can I hhhhhaaaave aaaa cuppppp ooofff waaattteeerrrr". it is driving me nuts. i tried for a few days to tell her i won't pay attention to her if she whines. i have walked away from her when she whines at me, dropped everything, turned around and walked away...makes the whining worse. I have tried telling her that whining isn't how we talk to each other and she needs to stop it, etc etc. i have tried everything at my disposal, from docs advise to books, to calling my mom (that wasn't any help at all. "pay back is fun" isn't any help...apparently i whined as a kid too).

Does anyone have the whiney little girl magic trick?

Wish I could offer some help but I have had a whiney boy on my hands allday. He pooped in his pull-up and I wouldn't let him go outside to play. He whined for about...oh...say....5 hours....

My ds was whiney from the time he was 4 months old until he began school. I attributed it to competition with his twin sister, at the time. She was (and is!) more advanced than he was in development and he struggled to keep up with her (he did keep up, but it was hard on him).

The "experts" say to ignore it and require the child to talk to you in a "normal" voice before you respond. It tries your patience, I know! I won't say I handled it well, but I did not follow the expert advice to a "t" either.

Probably consistency with a strategy such as the one above will be the best thing. I wish you luck (and patience!), I know it is hard!
