Question Is your partner frugal too?

    Is your partner frugal too?

Sometimes I feel like my husband just isn't "in" to living a more frugal life. We have talked about this and he says he is, but I just end up feeling like the bad guy so often when I have to say "no" to something.

    Ughhh!!!

Yes he is, in fact more frugal than me at times.

Sometimes its better if we don't always say no. Instead show them how being frugal can save big $$ in the long run. It really helped us when we set some goals and he began to see how quickly we reached those goals. I love that he is now on board with me.

Also I've found that giving dh an allowance so he can spend it on whatever he wants often helps too.

My dh is on a frugal rollercoaster. He's frugal to a fault in some areas and a spendthrift in others.

I think an allowance helps too.

DH is very good at paying ourselves first and living below our means. He is frugal isn areas I'm not. I'm frugal in areas he's not. He wants tv cable and the AC set colder than me. That's not frugal. He thinks we each should have about a weeks worth of clothes so laundry is done once a week! That is more frugal than me!

He can be more frugal than me. Only buying what we need at the store with no extras and doesn't like eating out very much.

Then again he sees nothing wrong with paying $8 for a fishing lure

My dh is getting more frugal by the day. There were times in years past when I felt like I was fighting an uphill battle. It took a long time but after being able to "show him the money" he got a lot more interested and began to notice the "little things" more and more. Now he's more frugal than I am in lots of ways.

It helps to have a specific goal. Just saving money doesn't seem to be enough for us. But saving money for a trip or to pay off our C.C. 2 years ago was wonderful. We tend to balance each other well. And staying away from his family in the city helps. He tends to want to "keep up with the Joneses" when we go there.

I am much more of a "saver" but he is not a big "spender". We do our budget together and we each keep our own birthday (spending) money. He does really well considering how un-frugally he was raised.

DH is much more frugal than I am. He would wear underwear until there was nothing left if I didn't buy new for him.

Not as frugal as me, but he tries. I have to give him credit for trying.
