Last Thursday Kathryn stepped on a piece of glass, and Dave & I thought we got all of it out. It wasn't easy.
Fast forward to last night. Kathryn starts complaining about pain there, and it's a little lump. She said she couldn't walk on it.
I called the doctor this morning and brought her in.
Omg it was horrible. The doctor put anaesthesia in her foot, and then slit open the bump looking for the glass. He said he didn't see any, but the nurse assisting said that she thought she saw a tiny piece come out. They squeezed it and squeezed it. He said that if there is anything left in there that it now has a place to come out. Poor Kathryn cried and cried. I would have given anything to switch places with her I felt so helpless.
He gave me a couple of topical creams to put on her foot, and he wants to see her again on Tuesday. I made an appt to have the last test for Lauren (eye test that they weren't set up to do before), and she'll be all set for Kindergarten after that appt. We go back for both things on Tuesday at 10:20.
I am glad that's over, and I hope it heals the way it should. Hard being a parent sometimes

HUGS to you! Amanda got a big splinter in her foot a week or so ago from one of those landscaping ties at the playground. (I can't get her to keep her shoes on). Dh & I thought we got it all out, but a few days later it looked horrible. I took her to the pediatrician and they used forceps and got it out without too much trouble. I am so sorry she cried so much - it is indeed horrible to know that the thing that will make your child better hurts!
Poor thing, hope it heals and she feels bunches better soon.

OUCH! I know that had to hurt something fierce. Ds had a similar experience with a huge splinter on a camping trip many moons ago. Dh brought him home and said dig that splinter out.....I took one look and called the dr. . That thing was as big around as a wooden matchstick and wayyyyy too deep for me to fish it out. Ds was about 13 and he acted like a man while the dr. dug and dug......eewwww. I feel for Kathryn.....
