    Default Toddler Bed??

Ds is 2 1/2 and I have been thinking about getting him a toddler bed. At night we lay in our bed and read and sometimes (rarely) he will go to sleep there and I will take him to his crib where he sleeps all night. He doesn't take many naps anymore . He has never tried to climb out of his crib. I have this crazy notion that if we get him his own toddler bed maybe he will start taking naps and I can read him to sleep in his bed.

I was wondering what ages you all went from crib to toddler bed with your children? Did you even do the toddler bed thing?

We went to a toddler bed with Miss K when she potty-trained because then she could get up on her own. She had never tried to climb out of her crib, either. She was about 20 months old....give or take a week or 2.

Ashleigh went straight to a twin bed matress on the floor at about the same age. I couldn't afford an actual toddler bed at the time. The twin matress worked fine until she learned to not fall out....then we got her a frame & she *still* wanted to sleep on the floor.

Don't they recommend 3 years or 36 inches as a guideline? I thought so. Something like that. Or, I'd say if he's needing to get out to potty.

Or I guess, if you *want* to get him out (so you can read with him) go for it........

I see toddler beds all the time now at the consignment stores & garage sales.......*now* I mean, after I don't need one.

ds went into a toddler bed when dd came along. at the time his bed was at the foot of our bed and dd's crib was on the other side of the room. when we moved to a larger apartment, ds was in a toddler bed and dd went to one too. we didn't have much of a problem with them staying in their beds, but they didn't take naps in them. i was working at the time so on my days off when we were all home, we'd take a nap together in the big bed ( mine and dh's) or in the livingroom when we'd fall asleep watching a movie. not the best napping habits, but it was time together.
we had a little trouble with dd sometimes getting out of bed at night when she wouldn't fall asleep, but not too often.

We skipped the toddler bed. DD went right from a crib to a twin bed with a rail. She was around 22 months at the time. She already knew how to get out of a bed and has never had a problem. The crib was just not working for her and the toddler bed just used a crib mattress. The extra room of a twin works much better for her.

We usually go to a toddler bed during potty training 14-18 mos. Moving into the big bed has depended on the size of the little ones and where we have room at any given time (we have a crib and 2 toddler beds in one room, and a single bed in the other room)
