Need help with decision
Well my husband has been working 6 days straight and when he first got the job they kept him on the road for 13 weeks. This is before letting us get a place to live or anything. He finally had been able to work in this area for 2 weeks and he got a call this morning. They want him to go to Pittsburg for at least a week. I have 2 choices. I can either stay home alone which I have never done. I don't know anyone, can't drive due to disability. Or I can go with him but this means staying in a hotel room all day and all night for up to 2 weeks.
I am so confused as to what I should do it isn't funny. We don't even have money till next Friday so I would have to take stuff from here to cook. He gets a food allowance so he is taken care of. But, he has only 2 sets of clothes for work and he will be working 12-14 hour days and would have to wash his on clothes at night when he gets in tired if I didn't go. Also, I make his breakfast and pack his lunch which he would have to do these 2 things himself as well.
He tells me of course the decision is mine but I truely don't know what to do.
Can anyone at all please tell me what they would do in this situation. I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Leeleeaub I'm not sure what I'd do. I think on first thought, I'd go. I did that a long time ago with one of our moves.
Lived in a motel (cheap one) and then in a travel trailer. I washed out our clothes in an old bucket using a clean new toilet plunger to make it a bit easier as there wasn't a laundromat nearby. Hung the stuff on a rope that George strung for me outside the trailer.
I took books and read a lot. I actually took my sewing machine and set it up on the table in the trailer and made stuff.
Fixing meals and dealing with laundry was my contribution.
Meanwhile dh was coping with a new job site and it made life easier on him.
The kids were at my inlaws which I wasn't happy about but that is another story.
I'd try to look at it, as an unexpected vacation and where ever you go, try to see the sights as best you can even taking a public bus and just follow the route. (ask first where the safe routes are, you don't want to land in trouble in a strange place).
Dh and I often go cheap when we travel. I hit my discount supermarket and pick up bags of fruit to take, and veggies that are washed and cut up (or do that and bag em) so we have healthy snacks and meals.
One place we were there for a week. I bought buns and bread at a bakery, we ate fruit, nuts, cheese all of which keep without refridgeration pretty well. Canned sardines or fish work too if you take a fork. Canned veggies, drain and eat as is, they are cooked. Canned meat dinners like chili or whatever same.
It's cheaper than meals at a restaurant which we budgeted for once a day.

You want to crochet or knit, so why not grab a how to book from the library if they allow a long enough loan period, and some yarn and needles from the Salvation Army so that if you make mistakes you can rip it up and re do it a billion times then throw it away and do something on nice yarn for keeping.
If you can find it I'm quite partial to Maggie Righetti's book on learning to knit. It's got good pics, and easy starter projects. She wrote one for crochet too.

there they are in the amazon pics, you might be able to see inside, and you have the isbn so your library could maybe get a copy for you.

Thanks a ton. I guess that is what I will do. I have always been there for him and will continue to do so. He called a few minutes ago and said that he "might" not have to go. I am praying constantly that he doesn't have to.

What Margery said.
It would be nice for you to get a change of scene too.
Many places have continental breakfast included in your motel bill so you'll just have to think about what to have for the other 2 meals of the day.

You are most welcome. I dislike leaving home myself, but when I have to I try to think of it as an unexpected vacation and bring lots of little things along.
In fact that year I mentioned, that I took a sewing machine (I don't recommend it for small trips LOL) I set myself the project that I'd teach myself to sew knits. I bought a book on sewing lingerie
It was the very first edition of Kwik Sew's lingerie book, and it had traceable patterns, multi sized
and I started sewing stretch fabrics for the first time.
After that I got going on my life long love of Kwik Sew, but if I hadn't had those long hours by myself, I doubt I'd have done it.
Still look back on that time with considerable pleasure.

I'd go in a heartbeat. Just think of the scenery you'd see and you'd get to spend time with him.
As Darlene said, many hotels have continental breakfast.

Check out the hotels before you go. If they offer breakfast, you can take a few "extras" to your room for late night snacks and the like. Most rooms have a coffee pot. Take packets of oatmeal, soup, hot cocoa and the like along with some plastic bowls, cups and silverware. Fresh fruit is also very welcome. You can use the icebucket in the room and ice from the ice machine to chill yogurt, etc from the breakfast bar.
Once you are in the city, check out the librarys and local sites. Pittsburgh is really a very nice city with alot of free activities. You will find it interesting I am sure. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Well, it looks like we aren't going to have to go afterall. My prayers have been answered. We were there for 3 weeks back in December and stayed at the Candlewood Suites. I did all the cooking breakfast, lunch and supper. I stayed in the room and read and watched t.v. but to go anywhere from there walking is very dangerous and I got cabin fever staying cooped up all day. So I am very very glad we don't have to go.
