Need ideas for 1950's costumes ... with no time to sew!
Hi.
I completely spaced out that, in addition to building a mock bridge, and finding thrift store vases for tomorrow's scout awards ceremony -- we're also supposed to come in 1950's costumes!!!!
I am still sewing badges on vests! No time to shop. No time to sew costumes.
What would you rummage through your closet and put together for a 1950's costume? (girls and adults)
Rolled up jeans with socks rolled down and sneakers? Hair *up* in a ponytail with a scarf. Cotton blouses...actually, a lot of what's in style right now!
I'm not much help...I was born in 1959.
I was thinking the same thing. Actually I think petal pusher pants were popular then. Whew! Say that 3 times fast! lol Could you paint some white canvas sneckers to look like saddle shoes?
*jeans rolled/folded up a few inches
*white socks, folded down
*sneakers/sadle shoes
*white oversized button up shirt/cardigan sweater over the shoulders
*hair in ponytail with a scarf tied in it/ or long with a head band
*ring on a piece of ribbon if you want to look like going steady
*Red lipstick
*chewing a pig piece of bubble gum
*could put on a leather coat, (ie: the Fonz)
*could borrow a lettermans jacket from a friend or neighbor
Good Luck and I hope they have fun!
Recently I helped a neighbor girl come up with a 80s outfit with no money spent.......its kinda fun to see what you can come up with.
One DD will wear a pleated skirt; another a pencil skirt. (I did a quick thrift store run & picked them up.) I also found a 50's-style evening dress that would actually fit DD, if I cut about 2 feet off them hem!
DH will wear a t-shirt with an empty cigarette box rolled up in the sleeve. I'll just wear regular clothes .... with an APRON!
Isn't the movie Grease set in the 1950's, they had the same style dress that you guys are talking about. That would give you lots of ideas on what to use.
