My little girl is 5 and she loves to cook and help me in the kitchen. I bought a whole bunch of different beads and some waxed string for her and she makes jewelry constantly. Arts and crafts are BIG in my house.
She loves to do one particular type of art. We get one big, more expensive sticker and design a scene for it. Last week we got a great Little Mermaid sticker. First we ripped up blue tissue paper and glued it to a piece of paper to make a wavy ocean. Then we took yellow pompoms and glued them in a circle to make the sun. We added a whole bunch of fish stickers, made some cotton ball clouds, then topped it off with the Little Mermaid sticker. It looks great and whe was so proud.
Hmm, lets see. I moved her toy kitchen into my kitchen so she could pretend while I am busy in there. She also enjoys those kindergarten/ grade one workbooks. She calls them her crossword puzzles.
Hope some of these ideas help!

My kids love to just recycle any old thing into an "art project"
We save cereal boxes, toilet paper rolls, tissue boxes to paint.
I got a rolling plastic three drawer Rubber maid thingie and organized all the arts and crafts. This really helps alot.
Oh yeah, I also save every single card and keep them together with magazines for cutting out collages. This keeps my daughter entertained for about 1/2 hour almost every day.
We read alot.
I've read that most geniuses were folks who were "bored" alot as youngsters. In other words, they were left to their own devices and had to figure out how to entertain themselves. I often times think of this when I'm trying to hard to "entertain" my kids.
Does she like word search puzzles? You can make your own on www.puzzlemaker.com and they are plentiful elsewhere online.
If she likes to draw, check for some of Ed Emberley's books at the library. They teach you step by step how to draw so many cute things. http://www.edemberley.com/pages/main.aspx

I have boys but they loved to play cards and board games. Sometimes we would get a big stack of books and go outside and set on a sheet and I would read to them. They loved it.( my 14 year old still rembers it.)
How about a doll house?
Grandpa might help her make things for it.
She can make things on her own too with recycled
objects as listed above.
Shoe boxes & clothes pin people for a very simple project
with glue, paper & fabric scraps.
Could she start a little container gardening? Maybe grow some herbs or things she can pick and eat? Flowers are nice, too. I think that would be fun. I liked to dry and to press flowers, too, especially if I grew them myself because they meant more to me that way.
