    Default I finally broke down...

..and bought something for my son with our money! Up until now we'd been using exclusively shower gifts, well, except for diapers. Even the wipes we're using were given to us.

But I decided that since we only have 4 outfits with feet that fit him right now, and it's cold, and I got tired of washing them every day, I'd buy him some more. So I bought two more pairs of footie outfits - they're officially pajamas, but he doesn't know that! They are fleece so they'll keep him warm.

I have bought a few other things with giftcards (4 pairs of pants and a little playmat) but this is the first thing I've actually spent money on. And he looks adorable in them! One is red and blue and has a fire truck on it and "Little Hero" and the other one is light blue and has a puppy dog on it. I got them in clearance at Macy's for $5 each.

That's great shopping and of course the baby needed the items.

    Sara! Too funny!

I have yet to buy anything for Matthew, and to be honest, I'm not sure I ever bought anything for Patrick. We have so many handmedowns from relatives and friends. I have clothes for the boys in boxes in the closets until they are 8! (Pat is turning 3 on Thursday and Matty turned 1 on Sunday)

Julia started out with handmedowns from her cousin, but last year, Julia got taller than her cousin, which is funny, because Julia is 5 and her cousin is 8! Anyway, I bought Julia a few back to school clothes this year, and then hit the motherlode with Freecycle for quite a few more outfits, so she's good to go as well.

I always am shocked at people who say that they need "clothing budgets" for clothes for their kids. Kids grow out of clothes so quickly, and wear them so hard, clearance, consignment, second-hand, and hand-me-downs are definitely the way to go!

I think that's great! I hope I can be that frugal when I have kids. The thrift stores and yard sales are always full of children's clothes. If you look carefully you can find some pretty nice outfits.

You have a handsome little boy there.

When my kids were little they had diapers called Drypers. I do not know if they are still on the market but they were only 3.99 a package. When you opened up the package there was always a .75 cent coupon. Bradlees doubled coupons back then so I would get diapers $2.49/package. Also my kids were on Isomil and the company used to send me coupon checks all of the time. They also sent me whole cans of free samples. Soooo at Walmart they had a really good price on the Isomil and I would use the coupon checks and get formula for such a cheap price. Also I would get my kids baby food for next to nothing because there were a ton of rebates and coupons back then.

As far as clothes goes my son had so much from co-workers, family and friends. My daughter had too many clothes to even mention. People love to buy dresses for little girls with all of the frills.

My kids are 10 and 13.
