My mom lives in Kamloops, B.C. which is a 2 day drive and I don't get to see her only ever couple of years. I wish I lived closer but its not possible.

My mom and dad live in Lancaster PA-400+ miles from me. I see them three times a year: summer for a week, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They come up here at Christmas time, and we go down there the other times. I'm not sure if we'll be going down for Thanksgiving any more because my dd starts kindergarten this year.
It's not often enough, and I envy people that have their families close by.

Sherry, I was going to start a poll like this too!
I live 2 hours from my family & seem them about once a month
(I usually go there).
My DH family lives in the town we reside in (including his aunts,
uncles, both grandparents etc).
It is hard for me to be even 2 hours from my family.
The town we live in is a small town & most people are from here
so their families are HERE. Same with my co-workers, they all
live right by their families.
I guess that's what makes it difficult sometimes. I think it would
be easier if both DH & I lived away from families or if we lived in
a place like NYC etc where most do not have family close by.
Atleast that would make me feel better!

All of our family is long-distance.

My mom and sisters are 275 miles away. Another sister is about the same distance away in another direction.
Dh's two boys from his first marriage are 2,000 miles away. His parents, about the same. His mom's people live in Virginia, about 1,000 miles away, and his dad's people are spread out all over Tennessee, about 2-300 miles away.
(My dad's passed on. I don't know where any of his family is)

I have always lived far from family. Gabe's family is in Quebec, so both of us are far from our families. It can be sad if I think about how my children won't have that bond that I had with my grandparents, but otherwise I am not unhappy we live far.

i think it makes us appreciate the families more though don't you. And i also live in the town my husbands family is in. (3/4 of the town is related to him.) i really think it would be easier for him to understand me if we did live somewhere in the middle.

My Dad's family lives in Texas. My SO's family lives here in Sacramento. I get homesick so every year we go back for a long weekend. It's hard not to be with them, but my SO is home to me and if we plan to see them yearly then it's not a big deal.

Well, two weeks ago, I was down visiting my mom and sisters, and by the time it was over, I was GLAD I don't live close enough to have to see 'em often.

I am in Southern Cali and my parents, sister & her family, and most other extended family are all in Pgh, Pa. I do have an aunt & uncle in Phoenix Az. there are always a lot of little packages sent back and forth and a lot of phone calls. But no one gets on a plane to often. I miss all of the green and the nice people, i miss the community feeling. After 17 yrs I am a little tired of palm trees and cement. And i hardly know my neighbors.

My sister finally loves close to us--about a mile away. Our parents live in Oklahoma and DH's sister and family live about 200 miles from us. We see his sis every few months when they come up for a family or church or work-related function as well as Christmas. His parents are about 25 minutes from here.

Well, we used to be an hour away from both of our families. Both families live in the same town! But now we are an ocean apart! We live in Germany right now and will be here for two more years. Talk about missing your family! It's really hard to go home form here!
