My DD's new job!
My 19 y.o. DD just got her first job. This is pretty exciting for her because she has pretty significant learning disabilities. She tests average as far as verbal I.Q., but her academics are all pretty much 5th and 6th grade levels and she has a slight speech impediment and some fine motor impairments. Because of this, even though she has applied for many fast-food type jobs, she has never been called back for an interviews or hired. I think many people don't see her as being as capable as she is. Well, she applied the day before yesterday at a nursing home less than a mile away from us and she was hired today to work part-time as a dietary aide. She's also attending community college part-time so this will keep her very busy. She is so happy because, as she told me earlier today, "I didn't think anybody would ever hire me, mom." She was getting so discouraged and this will do wonders for her self-esteem, plus she's a very sweet, caring young lady and I think she's going to love working around the elderly.
Anyway, just thought I'd share the happy news.

maybe the fast food places didn't come through because (this) better things were in store! I'll bet she loves it. Good luck to her!

Oh how wonderful! She sounds very similiar to my brother, and just as capable and dependable
My brother is now 39, has a condo and DRIVES, and has worked at our college here in town for 9 years now in the cafeteria.
This job sounds just wonderful for her, and it can grow into a wonderful opportunity also!
Hugs to you AND her!

How wonderful. Sometimes all any of us need is someone to show a little faith to get that first job. This should do wonders for her confidence and be a very rewarding job.

I am so happy for her!! I believe there is a time and a purpose for everything. This was the time. If she had gotten the other jobs, she probably would not have found this one and this one sounds perfect for her!

Congratulations to your daughter, she sounds like a wonderful person
Sometimes, all a person needs is someone to believe in them and things turn around.
I agree, fast food wasn't the way to go and better things WERE waiting for her!
