Always the bearer of bad news...
we (meaning hubby & I) are considered the most stable ones in the family by the younger generations. Most likely because we still live in the same house as we did when they were little and believe it or not our phone # is still the same too...which is more than we can say for the rest of the family. So we are the "emergency or message" number for all of them.
Which means when one of their little darlings gets in trouble at school, we are the ones who get called. I swear I get more phone calls now, then I ever did when my kids were in school. It also means when we get said phone calls we have to run to whomever's house the naughty child lives at and let the parents know that their little darling hasn't been so darling.
I thought my niece was going to pop a cork tonight! We had to go over to her house and tell her that her little darling was kicked off the bus indefinitely...he's 4 years old!!! I am so glad I'm too old to breed...I don't think I could go another round

I like to change my number every few years, it makes it hard for people to keep up with me...
and call to ask if they can come stay with me/ live with me which has happened too, too much... hence changing my number every few years.
I keep an unlisted number now and only a few people have it since they charge you now to change it.
4 and kicked off the bus?
wow.

when does getting kicked off the bus make for an emergency ?
I'd be asking the person who called telling me that if they knew what an emergency was and not to call for that kind of thing... to call the parents of the child, not the emergency contact.
oh how I hate drama !

I'm thinking the school probably needed someone to come get the little one. My mom told me that when she was five, she was thrown out of kindergarten. A little boy was up in a tree at recess and she tried to climb up the tree, too. He told her that this tree was "his" and she couldn't climb up it. My mom told him that it wasn't his tree, it was God's tree. Then she proceeded to push him out of God's tree. The little boy broke his arm and my mom got sent home. Yep, that's my mom-- the kindergarten juvenile delinquent.

In the old days when people were allowed to spank their kids and instill corpral punishment...
there was none of this stuff like we have now.
Kids having sex and getting high in 1st grade.... egads !
What kind of family do they come from when they act like that ?

I totally agree. Today's children are all togetherI am so glad I'm too old to breed...I don't think I could go another round !
different than when we were coming up. JMO but the kids
today are overexposed and involved in to many
extracurricular activities besides all the other
million things they have to deal with.

Too old to breed! LOL. I do know what you mean.
While I never got a call from the school regarding my own children I was the emergency number years ago for a lady down the street from us. Single mom on welfare, no job, no phone. I was also a single mom, worked full time and could afford a phone. Unfortunately I also worked at the school so whenever there were problems with her kids which was often they came to me and I had to tell my neighbor what her little sweeties had done. And this was only elementary school. Of course she always blamed someone else, or the school, or her situation on their problems. Boy was I glad when she finally moved away.

A four year old getting kicked off the bus could be for a variety of reasons...can't keep his hands to himself would be my best guess. Or maybe he doesn't stay seated, therefore causing himself and others danger.
I'm laughing so hard about the comment about being too old to breed.Mom to two crazy boys

My little great-nephew has some issues that spanking will not solve. He has behavior issues stemming from lead paint poisoning and he has made very good progress over the past couple of years. The problem is, is that he is 4 and in preschool...the preschool transportation is also the elementary school transportation. When you put a 4 year old with behavior issues on a bus with older kids it appears to be a recipe for disaster.
After talking with the little guy I found out that some of the older kids were calling him dumb, ect...so he spit at them. He had issues earlier and they started harnessing him into his seat...which since he is the only child on the bus who is harnessed added extra fuel to the teasing from the older children. Apparently a 4 year old should know how to contain his behavior, but it is okay for older children to torment said 4 year old.
If my niece had a car she could drive him to preschool, but she doesn't. If my niece had a phone they would have called her, but she doesn't. We are the only ones with a phone that are dependable...so we just kind of get nominated to be the contact number...I just hate always being the bearer of bad news, just once I'd like a school to call me with kudos for one of the kids..."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans."
