    Default Refrigerator died....

What a major bummer! Last night, I realized that our refrigerator wasn't cooling well. We put a refrigerator thermometer in it and it's only cooling at 60 degrees. We bought this refrigerator about 8 years used for $400 and it's worked well up until now.

The funny thing about this is that a few weeks ago my mom gave us her fridge which was only 2 years old, since she's bought all new appliances for the house they just bought. We drove 2 hours both ways to pick it up and bring it home and my kids and DH decide they want to keep our old refrigerator since it's a side-by-side and has water and ice dispenser in the door. So we gave my mom's fridge to my brother who also just bought a house, but didn't have enough money to buy a fridge for his new house. Oh well, isn't that the way things work out?

We shopped around today and found a new fridge at Lowe's, and I had a $25 coupon card so it came to about $620, not counting delivery. ( Delivery is "free" in the form of a rebate which they'll send to us in 6-8 weeks.) They'll deliver it tomorrow morning. We were able to salvage quite a bit from the old fridge and put it in coolers and thank goodness we have to freezer in the garage for the meats and such. I'm just sort of bummed out about this because it seems like lately it's been one thing after another and our EF hasn't been growing the way I planned it to. I know I really shouldn't be grumbling, since we do have an EF to handle these things and we should be able to replace about $550 next payday, but sometimes it just seems like everything happens at once. Grrrr! Thanks for listening to me gripe. :

It's always a major bummer when an unexpected expense pops up! But, you are right it is a good thing you had an EF to fall back on.

Just to be safe, make sure you spray Lysol around your computer and monitor to properly disinfect and ,hopefully, prevent the Highly Contagious, Mortifyingly Dangerous, Widely Dreaded FV Refrigerator Plague....

    yes... MINE!

I bought it at Lowes... the repairman came out today and fixed the lose wire.

He was here 7 hours ago... and the darn thing is STILL reading 50! Not sure what he did... but I don't think 'fix' is the right word...

He said I could go shopping tomorrow (oh joy)... I think not!

Seven hours ago and it's still at 50?? Did the repairman also happen to leave a Lowe's flier in the vegetable crisper? Geez! Sounds like he didn't do much but try to drum up business for the store. Hope you don't have to buy a new one.

If he worked for Lowes... I'd agree with you...

He is an independent repairman because it's a Samsung and apparently no one from Lowes knows how to fix them...

I have a warranty, and they told me Thursday that if he couldn't fix it Friday, I can go out and rent one and have them pay me back... or if I can't find a place locally that rents them (there is no store in my house... thats local, isn't it??? ) I can go to Lowes and they can give me something to tide me over.

Oh... Oh... Oh... did I mention the ONLY repairman who can fix this mysterious Samsung fridge is leaving for the weekend... he said he will call me MONDAY to see if it's working because he is leaving for Florida today... IF??? IF??? That was a red flag right there. It's 8:23pm here... not sure what time Lowes closes, I will have to look it up.

This is getting to be a headache... I am SO ready to tell Lowes to just take back this fridge and refund my money...

Oh, and sorry about YOUR fridge Michelle... I hope YOU didn't buy a Samsung too!!!

No, we bought a Frigidaire. How long ago did you buy your fridge, Lady V? It sounds like a real lemon.

I bought it Jan 22, 2007... it was delivered 5 weeks later... and replaced 2 weeks after that... and repaired 3 weeks after THAT... so this is technically the second fridge...

I just called Lowes... and they said that 7 hours isn't long enough for a fridge to get back to 'normal temp'... to wait until tomorrow because it can take up to 12 hours, maybe more... and check it again...

(Ya right... it's 8:45 on a Friday night and you don't want some ticked off Italian staring at you until you get her a new fridge... unleash her on the morning crew )

LOL, yep, sounds exactly like what they're trying to do. Good luck, I hope yours cools down sufficiently overnight. If not, I pity the poor morning crew at Lowes.
