That is outrageous. These people are sometimes making a lot less than they were when they were employed (NY state maximum is 400 and something) so they're probably already tight when it comes to money. When dh got it last year they direct deposited into our checking account which was nice. Not only did it save us time, but direct deposit also saves them money.

That's just ridiculous.
They have pre-paid cards for unemployment here too. Only there's no charge for taking out the money because it's not attached to a bank account. It's like a credit card that the state issues you. What is really crappy is all the ATMs you can use to get your money from (there are only a handful in our area) are in places like bars/clubs

And as for Chase... I will NEVER EVER EVER use them for ANYTHING ever again as long as I live. Not after the crap they put us through when dh lost his job and we were trying to go through CCCS so we could pay our bills and avoid bankruptcy.

That is just not right!!! Another example of the system taking advantage of the little guy when he's down! In Missouri, they direct deposit it into your checking account if you chose.

My husband has been on unemployment for the last 13 weeks and we too receive benefits through a debit card from the state. Now on ours, we can telephone transfer at no charge even amounts 1 time each week to our main checking account or we can go directly to the bank (Old National) and withdrawl the entire amount once per week at no charge. We can also check the balance on the computer at no charge. After that, it does cost us the same fees as yours does. We just transfer it to our account once per week and then write out bills. Sometimes I leave a little on it for my husband to use while he is out. Using it at the store or fast food as a debit card does not cost us anything.

It's unbelievable!! They are abusing the system and think they can get away with it. Who EVER heard of having to pay $12.50 to write a check on your own funds? If there was no way around the $12.50, I'd just take all of my money out at one time and deposit it into another account with another bank. Every month I'd do that.

This is absolutely awful. Reason number 4534543543 why I hate big chain banks.
It makes me wonder if the state of Colorado is getting a kickback from Chase Bank to do this deal????McD

Bad enough that you're unemployed and have to file for compensation and then the same people rip you off. Darn shame.
