Aw, Gabe. I'm really sorry to hear that the company is downsizing. I'll keep my ears open, but the idea of moving to Arkansas might be too scary.

Impressive resume, I'm sure you'll find something soon.

Any interest in returning to Quebec? Just curious.

And, tbs727, Arkansas ain't so bad! LOL, if he were to find anything here it'd probably be in NW Arkansas and he'd need spanish instead of french, I think!

    Anyway, good luck!

Nope, you're right Suki, I was just joking. I love NW Arkansas. It's just that there are some misconceptions about Arkansas that I think are funny. You're right about Spanish, though, It's a badly needed skill around here.

How is the cost of living in Arkansas? Crime?

What? Do you mean y'all have shoes over there in NW Arkansas???

Yep, many misconceptions... I just find them really funny anymore. When I was younger, I'd get offended, but now, I just laugh at the ignorance.

Actually, Gabe, it's great and it's a wonderful place to raise a family. Crime is very low and cost of living is reasonable.

My daughter goes to college in Columbia, MO as well and you might check it out for potential. It's an amazingly progressive town that is consistently among the top places to live.

Arkansas rates well... depending on the area. I'd recommend NWArkansas (Fayetteville, Bentonville, Springdale) and NOT Little Rock, Fort Smith, Pine Bluff, Texarkana or the Memphis area. I personally live in a small town smack in the middle of the northern part of the state near the Missouri border. I'm surrounded by 3 rivers, 2 lakes and acres upon acres of wilderness. Unfortunately, job opportunities here are slim. In NW Arkansas, they have beautiful scenery and better job opportunities (thanks to WalMart and Tyson).

I would certainly second that. Wal-Mart headquarters helps us out tremendously on the employment front. Dh is employed there as are many of our friends (either with Wal-Mart or vendors). You should look into it. But, I'll admit, I'd still rather be barefoot. Suki, I have an idea of where you live and it is SO beautiful up that direction.

When WalMart added the requirement that whoever they do business with have an office in NWArkansas... that really helped with the job explosion over there. So, you can find decent work without working for WalMart or Tyson, it's just that having those two there have helped the entire area gain employment.

And, yes, tbs... it's very pretty here. I love it.
