The Newest Hit.... Losing his insurance!
I'm not asking for pity or any 'sugar' just needing more vent time.
Yesterday DH called his employer about his insurance payment for July and was told as of July 5th, his insurance was being terminated and if he wished to keep it, would have to sign up for Cobra coverage. No big deal except its $300 more a month. We can't afford that especially when there is nothing coming in but the $60+ I've been averaging at the Farmer's Market.
I went and put in applications at two more places, he called Social Security to let them know what was going on and to see if they can speed things up. They suggested we go to DFS and sign up for medical assistance, which we did. He even called the drug company and they are sending us more forms to fill out to apply for assistance in getting his medication.
He was going to lose his short-term disability thru work on July 1st unless the doctor could send in test results, etc to prove he needed to be out longer. He had called the doctor and information was going to be sent in but now it looks like that won't matter as its all part of that medical payment he was making to work. We're at our wits end.
Please say another little prayer...
Thank you and Take Care,
Debbie in Missouri (off to job hunt again today)

Sending you prayers nightly.
I didn't think they could terminate your medical once you are diagnosed with something like that?

Prayers being said. Good luck with your job hunting. What was the reason they gave for terminating his insurance? I don't understand how they could do that.

Is he on FMLA or are they terminating his employment? If he's on FMLA, he should be able to keep the insurance at the same rate.
More questions need to be asked.

Was just thinking about this and I bet that's the day his FMLA coverage ends and they will terminate his employment at that point. They can and will do this. Sorry.

I am sorry that all of this is hitting you at once, I don't really have any advice, but I thought it might be useful to know what other companies policies are. I work for a small company in Virginia, different states and insurance companies have different policies but here are our policies:
an employee's insurance coverage will be terminated if absent from work due to illness or injury for more than six months (or failure to pay their part of the insurance premiums)
I hope that you make it through!
