just a rant...
I was up for a desperatley needed promotion but I found out 4 days ago that I didn't get it. During the "rejection" interview, they told me that since I showed initiative by applying for the position, they will reward me with more hours. YAY! I thought. Then I get next weeks schedule. They cut my hours in HALF! I only have 13. UGH. With all of our payments and what not, we can hardly afford groceries. I've been trying to do the groceries with only $30 a week and $20 a week for gas, but prices are so high, we've been going into our overdraft. So I have to try and rework that. We're trying to figure out a way to get out of our lease because our friend is renting us half a house, that will save us $300 a month, but out lease is up in october. I can't wait that long.
This economy thing sucks right now....rant over
thanks for listening.Debts

I am sorry to hear that you did not get the promotion. I hate "rejection" meetings. I would bring to their attention that they promised you increased not decreased hours.

Ditto....remind them you were promised more hours! Did they tell you why you didnt get the promotion? is there anything you can do to improve so you will get one? I dont know how anyone could live on 13 hours...... tell them or let other employees know you will fill in a shift if they need it off or are sick. Maybe you can pick up more hours that way???

That SUCKS!
Have you asked them how cutting your hours in half constitutes a reward?
What kind of work do you do now, and considering how they just treated you, are you looking for something different? If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I will be speaking with them tomorrow. I do pick up any shifts that I can, i did two extra this week, one last. I also will be shadowing a child at camp for 3 days next week which will help out alot too.
Oh, I didn't get the promotion because of, ultimatley, seniority. There were 4 other people going for it, and they've all been with the company for 3+ years. The girl who got it has been there for 10. I've been there 6 months. So I half expected not to get it. But I was their second choice they told me, though I'm not sure if I believe it since they were "so sincere" about giving me more hours too.Debts

I would ask them about the hours (if you haven't already)--perhaps it was an error? I'm hoping so and that you get the hours you want.
Sorry you didn't get the promotion

First, Im sorry this happenned and it sucks.
Second, talk to to person that told you you could have more hours.
Third can you file unemployment on the reduced hours that you are working?
Fourth, can you apply for a part time job to cover the lost hours if it is going to be this way for a while?
Lastly...good luck, take care of yourself, and try to remain positive.

So sorry you didn't get the promotion. Hope you find out that the loss of hours was just an oversight.
I hope things get better for you very soon.

So sorry Rachel,
Things really do suck economy wise.
Yeah, more hours is what you really want. Right.

What is it with this week being a crappy work week? I hope things go better next week. I would ask about the hours. Just for peace of mind if anything. I'm a born worrier, although I'm working on that.
