Angry Gotta tell ya, I am getting scared!

Everything seems to spinning out of control! Hubby has been laid off from factory since March 7th. No end in sight there. They are scheduled to close for good next spring. Unemployment plus what I make still makes us about $1000 away from making ends meet each month. We have cut back on all services, used almost all of our savings, hubby is doing odd jobs as a handyman, daughter #1 is working and I am working my second job for the summer. Man, we just cannot get ahead. I am proud of us on one hand because we havent had to borrow any money from parents, yet. But on the other hand, I am scared to death. It may come down to us having to cash in the 40lk in order to pay off all of the bills, but, we cannot do that because the company he works for will not release any of the employees. They say they will be back to work in the fall for a little while before they close. Ugh! It is so frustrating! We just keep on living week to week. Now, school will be starting soon and there will be bookrent, school lunches etc. I checked and with me working two jobs we will not qualify for any help. No food stamps, free bookrent, reduced lunches, NOTHING. I refuse to quit in order to get free stuff. I guess I am on a rant. Thanks for reading!

OH my gosh, it sounds like you are up to your elbows in alligators.

Will the company allow your DH to inquire into unemployment services or training while he's laid off?

I hope things turn around for you.
    It is what it is.

    (((momishem)))

I hope your family can somehow find some breathing room soon.

I've never heard of book rent, is that a school thing, or a district thing? If it's just something your individual school handles maybe you could talk to someone about waiving it?

    *hugs again*

Yes, he is signed up to attend a local tech school and/or Ball State University for the Spring of 2009. But until then it's unemployment and whatever jobs he can find. He is a really good handyman and thank God we have a lot of friends who have been hiring him to work on their rentals. As for the book rent, I guess I never thought about it. I thought everybody paid it. It is the actual rental for books and supplies that are not covered by the state for education. It's crazy, I know, but with my two incomes and his unemployment we make too much money for it to be waived. Best I can do is not pay it and pay it late. I guess I should be happy we make more money than most, but it is frustrating too. But, I refuse to quit trying.

Vent away! It stinks to be trying the best you can and just keep spinning. I can't believe they won't "release" all those employees. That seems so unfair!

You have a great attitude. Keep it up! And come vent whenever you need to!

((((((((Momishem))))))) More hugs just to let you know we care. So many jobs are going overseas and outside our countries. I'm afraid this is the beginning of the end for industrialized North America. Keep your chin up and be proud of what you all are doing. SIL was laid off from a GM company last year. Got two jobs and both laid off and since he was low man, he had no job again. He's now working a temp job. And all of this while DD was pregnant and had the baby. She worked through it all and kept them somewhat afloat. God will provide for you all, too.

I can see why you are scared. Is there a food pantry that you might be able to utilize to free up some $$ for other things?

Praying that you and your family will soon see a light at the end of the tunnel!! (((HUGS)))

I think textbook rental in public schools is outrageous. The only books we have to pay for are the workbooks the kids use, and it's only because they're not reusable!! I would definitely look into a payment plan..good luck!!
