Unhappy DH's factory let 10% of the workers go...

..this week without any warning at all. DH wasn't one of them, thank goodness. They let all their temps go last week and this week they also let go a nice young man who was working with in DH's section on a 'special' work program. I thought DH was gonna cry when he came home last night because he's spent the last 2 weeks comforting crying co-workers and saying goodbye. I'm not really worried about his job security because he's a lead operator and has seniority but I am worried about him. He's so physically and emotionally drained when he gets home form work. It's just hard to watch.~

    That is really tough.
Our loss in manufacturing jobs over time is one of the major reasons I try really really hard to not buy anything from China/Asia and that I will pay more for something made here in the USA. My hubby is also in Manufacturing.

My husband has been laid off since March 7. He works in the auto industry. The plant is scheduled to close in the Spring. We are hanging on by a thread. He is getting unemployment and I am working two jobs. They have frozen our 401k because he hasn't officially been terminated. Not that I want to get out our retirement, but at some point we may have to. It is very hard to pay off bills when you are struggling just to pay what you have got.

    Keep your chin up.

That just stinks for him. How stressful to see your coworkers let go. I will be thinking of you all, hoping he can remain mentally stong!

That is horrible. It is scary how many of our factories are laying off or shutting completely down. It appears that the only profession that is safe or will be increasing in size is the debt collection agencies.

A good friend of mine was notified last week that her dept was being eliminated-this is such a tough situtation. I will be keeping good thoughts for your DH.

My husband's company has been hit as well. We went through a few weeks at the beginning of the month that he spent a lot of time on the phone in the evenings with co-workers as they found out who had been cut and who had not. He was pretty upset when his boss was one of those who had been laid off, but cutting his salary saved 3 positions at my husband's level. Right now they are holding off on anymore lay-offs until this winter and we have been told that DH would be one of the last if it ever gets that far.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that! Must be hard for him to go to work each day and see that. Happy to hear that his job is safe though!

That is awful for the ones let go and their families. You would think they would have at least warned them so that could have been looking for another job.

I hope your DH's job stays secure.

I hope all stays secure for you and DH. It is happening all over. We have a good friend who has worked for a major car company for 25 years and they were told the week of the 4th that their plant is closing down in October. They may even lose their retirement as the rumers are that their plant is bankrupt. I can't imagine being some place that long and then losing everything you worked for.

    Take Care,

So hard to see people you care about hurting and not able to do anything to help. All you can really do is hug him and listen to him talk it out. Hope things get better and things turn around for all soon.

We live in Ohio and several factories around us have been laying off. They are also doing several mandatory shut downs for one to two weeks at a time. The factories seem to be really unstable ( along with all other business in our area).

I'm sorry your husband has been going through this difficult time. I'm glad his job is secure, but I know it must be hard to watch his friends and co-workers lose their jobs.
