Getting reddder and redder here
Ok so since July we have brought home about $500, plus family has given us not loaned us money for our trip to see family in NJ. Hubby is out on disablity right now and its one delay after the next with his check.
Here's what I have
Rent $800 a month (paid $500 last month nothing this month)
Electric $250 due Sept 9th( roll over due to going on a budget after missing a few payments)
Car Insurance $72 due Sept 1
Student loan 8000 in deferment
Credit cards $550 interest keeps going up and I have not been able to make a payment in 2 mths
Our rent is held by hubby's boss and right now they are being very relaxed with it knowing that we are not blowing the money. Plus they just bought us a house that we moved into and are fixing it, so they do not need to hire anyone. According to Carol everything will work out in the end.
I have an older car that is paid off and no toys.
What I have been doing
Looking for a job for myself but out of 50 apps no return calls
Making a pile of things to sell on craigslist(most worth next to nothing though)
Applied for oil assistance
Applied for Maine Rent Rebate
My biggest opps was with the Miles Yard sale where I spent $30 on Christmas gifts and a new tv(ours broke during the move) Second opps was buying cig packs during the move for the past 2 wks ouch I'm not back to rolling.
Is there anyway to make it work. Hubby is suppose to get a check on Friday but who knows. If it comes in it will be around $800.

Janice,
First, since you are doing the fixing, can you ask for a reduction in rent price? Or can some of what is being done by you in lieu of rent, painting, etc. you don't want that total to keep going up.
Also, depending on the company, can you work for your dh employer? They seem to be great people, if they are understanding about the rent, maybe they have something there.
Do you qualify for any aid?
From the money coming in, cover your utilities make the minimum payment on the cc and pay what you can for the rent, providing they are understanding. Otherwise, skip the CC again until the next check.

Hubbys' company wants to put me in a truck as a plumber which is not so bad but cannot untill they have another plumber available to train me. Hubby and I cannot be in the same truck together as per company rules. Inside the office part there is nothing available although again they have offered once a position b/c available to offer it to me. I use to work as an office manager for a plumbing company(how I met my hubby) so its a waiting game there.
The current aid we are recieving is food stamps and state insurance. I have my appointment on Sept 2 for oil assistance and unfortuantely any other aid I will need disconnect notices or eviction notices.

Ok, well, I'd really pursue the plumbing thing! Get your ticket. in the 80's recession here, my dad retrained from accountant to plumber, today, he contracts independantly and earns some really decent money. I remember in lean times, when there wasn't alot of work, him working on the side, and being paid with food, so we didn't need to do much groceries. A trade is very very handy. And I dont' see much substitute for water pipes

Keep your chin up.
Oh another thought, go to a temp agency, you have office experience, employers often need people to cover a day or two, might not be much, but better than nothing until you get a permanent placement.

Perhaps you could do odd jobs or help with an elderly person (doctor appointments, grocery store, etc) there may be a market in your area for things like that to help through this time as well. Ask around to see if you could clean offices at night (although you may want to be bonded and insured for this).
Good luck to you! I hope you're able to find work soon.

I'd try a food pantry if you haven't already... Maybe call around to see if any nearby churches have outreach programs?
Hope the check arrives on time... Sending hugs...

Hang in there, sounds like things will get a bit worse before they get better - but it doesn't sound like you are at risk of becomming homeless.

I'm glad the check came thru. My DH as been on short term disability, waiting for his social security disability to go thru. We finally had to get a lawyer. In the meantime, the short term is always late and coming in late. Its a constant fight with the system. Good luck to you both.

Well we keep pulling thru last minute and then another wave comes. I just found out that A. the current book keeper is leaving and the new one is not happy that we are behind on the rent. So we may have some issues there but we are paying everything we can so that should help if they try to evict us plus now I have a lease so I may be able to apply for emnergency assistance if she decided to create problems
B. Despite the work done on my car to get it too pass inspection it is still sick. My exschut broke off today at the manifold and no one will fix just that section since the whole thing is rusted. We were expecting the muffler but not replaceing the whole exscut. Luckly my Dad is letting us borrow his car till we can afford to fix it.
It stinks b/c I thought we were going to pull thru. I have been looking for work left and right and found out since I have been out of work for over a year they will pay for me to go into a service field which will be nice. Plus I interviewed and landed a job with dirct Tv. I just need to buy oh about $400 in tools with in 15 days of started. So I am probolly not going to take it but we will see.
Thanks all for listening to me whine
