Has anyone in your house been laid off, downsized etc?
I'm trying to figure out if I'm just noticing it more or have we had a rash of layoffs in the Frugal Village households. I just posted on my layoff thread, Ann's and Quiltingmommy(?) layoff threads.
Are there more? Or am I jusat noticing because I am sitting in the layoff in the household boat?~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

No, I don't think it's just because your going through it.
I believe that there has been an increase lately too. I wonder how many other FV members that are going through this, but haven't come forward to share it with us?
We've had 3 families in what the last 4 days or so? That's 3 too many.
I've been hearing about all of these lay-offs all over the news, and with the job market the way it is, I'm afraid it's only gonna increase.Michelle in middle Tennessee!
Ever so slowly rebuilding my stockpile...

My 17 yr old son. He is still in high school and works a part time job at the local Dairy Queen. Because of the economy the owner of the DQ decided to go seasonal. So as of this weekend yds is out of a job till March when the DQ opens again, if it does.
Not the same as an adult but boy is he learning a lesson in economics right now

Being hit by a layoff can really affect one's life and their family life. We were hit with a layoff last year and it really made us go back to our budget to make sure we could afford the necessitities in life.

My dh just changed jobs 2 weeks ago from a job he had for the last 17years. They were working on getting him for over a year. The job he left was cutting hours and there had been a freeze on raises for many years. The old job was getting really iffy. The new job is much better but, now he is the new guy not the one who has been there the longest. We had to pinch pennies for sure and any time there was extra (from freelance jobs and the stimulis check) we had to keep every bit to cover the shortfall from the cuts in pay. Already being in the frugal mode made for not such a drastic mind shift. Lots of prayer too!

My mom was just laid off. They were planning for her to retire in another year, but were counting on the money this year to add to their retirement account. With the stock market hitting their 401k hard they are really tightening their belts.

I was laid off over 3 months ago. I might go back to work next week. We'll see.
DBF's hours have been cut from 38 to 40 per week to 20 to 22.
Major suck.

No one in our house....yet anyways. My company is in the process of laying off 100-150 of it's 400 workers. I have not been hit yet, I'm crossing my fingers. 3 other people in my department have been laid off with more to come.
As for my dh's company, they just sent out this letter to all employees that basically said due to the current economy they were going to start laying people off. Not what we need!!!!!

Unfortunately, we can be added to the list. My dh's company is moving overseas so his last day of work is in Nov. I just pray that we have planned enough and prepared enough to get through this. I read your all's posts and I learn so much- thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

We have a friend who was laid off a few months ago and she hasn't gotten a single nibble yet. I'm worried for her. But I gotta take care of my own problems and stop trying to save the rest of the world from theirs.
