    Default Now What?!?!

Well, DH was released to work part time on October 1st. A good thing, right? Figured now he can sign up for his unemployment which is good since his short term disability stopped October 9th and being reviewed to see if he'd be eligible for long term. Well, he was due to get his first unemployment check this week but instead got a letter stating they had some questions and would be calling him.

He gets the call and they asked about his limitations, etc. Ok...things seem ok. Now, just 15 minutes ago, our mail runs and he has a letter from unemployment stating his claim is being denied as he voluntarily terminated. I knew this would happen, just from the way the company does things. They had it written in their employee handbook that if an employee cannot return to work after being on FMLA for 12 weeks, they consider it a voluntary termination. Its just great..... everytime you think things will get better, you get hit with something new.

Sorry to whine... its just so fustrating. Nobody seems to really want to help anyone until they have you at the lowest possible point.

I know. I am sorry that you got this bad news.

I really wish that there was some way that we could help, other than being a sounding board for you!

I'm very sorry things are so difficult for you right now.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

There should be a way to challenge the unemployment offices decision. Not sure it will do any good but it is worth a try.

That's such a disappointment! I know you must feel that everything is piling up right now. Hang in there, Debbie.

That's so frustrating. Hopefully you can find a way to get some help out of "the system".

It helps so much to have you guys here to sound off too. We've not given up but it was too late to call there office by the time the mail got here so it gives us the weekend to 'stew' about it. Like someone said.... its just another hurdle. We'll overcome it... just fustrating that when it looks like things are getting better, something always jumps up in the horizon.

Protest it. Many companies will try to getout of unemployment etc. but don't have the gumption to fight very long. A friend had his unemployment denied at first but when he explained the situation to the agency, the agency tried to get the company to explain what they had done, they didn't even bother returning calls, so it was decided in his favor. and "cannot" return after FMLA for personal health seems like it would be different that "will not". Ask questions. Be a pest.
