So as many of you know September 29,2008 marked my first day of disability for my seizure disorder. Here we are a year later....in June my disablity ran out but by then my job had filled my position. I had received letters from them advising they would not hold my job and if I found an open postion I was first in line for it. Sadly though just before I went out they had done layoffs "company" wide including my department and others in my postion. Well I didn't realize I had to continue submitting leave of absence paperwork or do a return to work physical with them even though I had no job to return to. I continued monitoring jobs and found nothing and in July I got a letter from my job advising they had terminated me. It is listed as a voluntary resignation and I have full rehire status BUT this prevents me from getting unemployment. We are scraping by but it is a struggle. My DH thinks we should be able to get back on track even without me working but I just don't know. I have applied for all sorts of jobs....at the mall, at fast food places, offices.I have not gotten even a call. I am trying to get back into my couponing FULL swing again...we were ok before but had less bills. 3 in braces $600 month;my car $460 a month;we have no credit cards just basics really.Buying the house REALLY did help because my payment is almost half what the rent was so this was a smart move not just adding debt. I don't know what to do. Stress brings on my seizure episodes but I am worried all the time.
I have a seizure disorder too. Mine is caused from a brain tumor in the right front (temporal lobe). I had it treated w/radiation years ago (17 yrs now) and it has not grown, but I still suffer from seizures and all that goes along w/that.
I get SS disability payments. Did you apply for disability? It took awhile for my paper work to go through and I did get help from a lawyer who got paid with a percentage of my "back pay". So there was no out of pocket cost at all. You can PM me it you want to talk.
The couponing is helping us tremendously - I still have to be watchful that I don't buy something "just because" I have a good coupon....
If you are going to go for the perm. disability, my understanding is that you have to keep fighting for it. A couple people I know were put on it but it took over a year of fighting and they turn everyone down the first time. (so I am told) Talk to a disab. lawyer about it......they take a percentage but nothing out of pocket now.
Good luck and sorry you are having such a struggle.
That is what I heard also about the automatic turn downs when you first apply for permanent disability - Keep going for it. Let us know what's happening in this journey. Sounds as if you have a good sense of your finanaces - keep focued. How is your health now?
I was automatically turned down on my first disability application and it did take around a year. But when my lawyers finally got it for me I had back pay for about 18 months......That chunk of money helped us get out of some serious cc debt, and buy our home.
But for now, stress doesn't help at all. It leads to anxiety and seizures. I have less stress when I feel more in control of my life. And these days and these times don't let most of us feel in control.
How do I feel in control? I have a budget for food & household. I stretch that budget in various ways (homemade laundry soap, menu planning, couponing, thrift stores, and stockpiling).
Other things in life can throw you for a loop but I try to do the best I can in the areas I can control. I need to take a good look and see where I can tighten up for the holidays. Christmas always puts me into a deep anxiety and I don't want that to happen this year.
Let us know how things are going and let your FV friends support you. We really do care.
you really need to visit a reputable lawyer.
They get 25% if you win but 0%if you don't.
If you are unable to handle a job and you visit your doctors regularly
you would have a good case.
Good luck with what you choose - there are no easy answers
I am very to hear about your situation, first of all. Second, the only thing I can see from your post is the car payment of $460/mo. Is there a way to eliminate that expense from your budget and find something you can pay for or pay for quickly, a beater to have an extra chunk every month? That's my only thought. Our hearts go out to you.
Prayers and hugs. I noticed the $600 a month for braces. Talk to your dentists office manager and see if there is any way to rework those payments. They should have no problem working out a new payment plan. In fact don't bother with the office manager, talk directly with your dentist. A good dentist will understand and be more than willing to work with you. Keep us updated and good luck.]
I agree with Sassy..talk to the dentist. I bet he would work with you to some degree. Stay as calm about all this as possible. You can't take care of anyone ( as we can see you want to ) if you aren't well yourself. Breathe in...breathe out...Hugs to all of you
