I think that by reducing the cable bill and groceries, we can make a dent in his gas money. As far as offering a bonus for selling in 30 days, I think it'd be moot. The housing market's really slow and it's a buyer's market, which means we're at the mercy of whomever puts an offer on the house. We already had an offer for $200k, but it was too low for us to realistically sell it.

Just curious where your husband will stay in Edmonton? The market is tough! I know two people who have not sold in over year...these are condos though.

I have been looking at homes for two years now...lol...still unsure of what we want to do. good luck! I hope you sell quickly!!!

He's actually staying in Sherwood Park with his parents. His sister and her family live in West Edmonton, but they have a condo as well.

We had a second showing of the house today, so hopefully it'll net us a good offer. If the offer's acceptable, we'll sign tonight and ask for 15 days till closing to help with the movers. In that time, DH can go up to Edmonton and look at some apartments.

I think we're gonna stay in an apartment once we do move, for about four months or so.

So I decided to quote this and add in an update:

We had someone come in for a second showing yesterday, but there's no news on that yet. DH has talked about quitting smoking again when he goes to Edmonton, but I'm not counting on that. I'd really love for him to do it, but he needs the willpower to quit. He tells me he's gonna try to sell the packs of smokes that he does have once he goes up there, but I can't be sure that's going to happen.

I'm going through the menu and I figure that if I make enough for three people with low-cost meals that the kids love, we'll be ok. We'll probably shave a good amount off of our grocery bill that way. If I have to eat sandwiches during the day and start eating cereal in the morning, I will.

I've gotten the go-ahead from DH to cut the cable bill down even further. The kids have been watching PBS lately, which is good for us. They also have two or three cartoon channels in the basic digital package, so we can shave another $30 from the bill. Now that the phone is gone and we don't watch as much PPV stuff anymore, we'll be ok in the entertainment department.

I'm going to set the thermostat pretty soon and start breaking out the winter clothing. It'll be warm next week, so I think that putting it on 68 during the day and 64 at night will be fine for us. The kids and I both wear pajamas to bed and we have lots of blankets. I'll just turn up the heat when people come to look at the house.

Your really a terrific planner! Crossing my fingers you get the offer you want! I hope your dh holds strong with the no smoking. The biggie is health there but the $ part helps too.

Is smoking really expensive in Canada? WI has high taxes on that stuff. I was at a gas station a while back and noticed it was almost $7 for a name brand smoke.
