Well, since DBF and I started building our savings, it seems like everything that could possibly go wrong has. First, DBF got a speeding ticket. Not too terrible b/c he has the money to pay it in his personal/car fund savings.
Then... DBF gets written up at work and b/c his boss is a jerk and wants to get rid of him. Long story and an entirely different rant altogether. Basically his boss just fires people on a whim, because he is having a bad day -- it has happened to many of DBF's co-workers while he has been employed there. His boss suggested terminaton on the paper that will be sent to corporate (which basically guarentees that he will be fired). DBF was given the option to turn in his two weeks notice, which he did and his last day will be a week from next Monday. DBF's income is over 1/2 of our total income.
Then, last night while I was at the ICU with my client (super long week at work b/c my client is having major medical issues, but again, another topic altogether -- I am just exhausted), DBF texts me and says that his account was overdrawn and 3 NSF charges (totalling over $100) were taken out. Grr. This was a stupid mistake on both of our parts, but still...
Isn't the saying that bad things happen in 3s? Well, I am hoping that is the case for us.
Been thee done that since dh got hurt in October. But thankfully I think I can finally see the top of the pickle barrel instead of just the bottom. Hang in there things will get better. Everyone on here was great to help me through everything.

Well be glad you had the money to take care of these things. What would have happened if you hadn't saved? Bad things are always going to happen whether you've saved or not. A lot of people can attest to that. Savings make the fall a bit easier for you.
I don't know if you do this or not, but I was told not to call your savings an "emergency" fund. Because if you do, you'll start to have one emergency after another. Better to call it a "cushion".
Another thing I heard is that forces will come against you once you begin to save, as a test to see just how serious you are about commitment. If you let these incidents derail you early on, you're proving you don't have what it takes to hang on and continue a habit that wll eventually lead you to financial security.
At least your boyfriend is willing to save (and see that emergencies come up...). My boyfriend will have say $40 left from his paycheck and he'll have a $60 bill coming up and he'll blow the $40 instead of saving it to pay the bill. His "reasoning" is "well, I don't have enough to pay that bill so I may as well spend it on something I want". I've just stopped trying to get through to him.
We are experiencing the same, just in a diffent way. Hard to keep a positive tude but I figure what ever we survive we learn from and make us stronger individually and as a couple. Good luck sweetie remember we always come out on top.
Constructive discharge - this is an unemployment term.
When you are harassed into quitting your job, most states will give you unemployment because it is a constructive discharge - he was harassed into quitting his job..
He needs to sit down and just list incidents, like yesterday and also pointing out that others left under the same types of circumstances, then go an apply.

Oh Kitten, I hope the "3" are over with and you're heading on the upswing now. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your dbf. I know it hard, we're going through similar and it sucks but we have to keep trying. Lots of good thoughts coming your way.
