We just bought our first house in June, and I'm due with another baby (our third, we have a 5 year old and a 13 month old as well) in 7 weeks. We have about nothing in our savings, and my DH was laid off last week. We have already been frugally living as we don't make that much anyway (he brought home $37,000 last year). We have a $50-$60 grocery budget each week and that's cutting it close. We were in the process of paying things off like credit cards and medical bills (no insurance for our last babies delivery) and were hoping to use this tax refund to pay off a few things to free up some money and help make it through. He's been working some odd jobs here and there and can collect unemployment for six months but I am worried. I can't get a job being 8 months pregnant and having a baby at home already. HUH.....just wanted to vent.....
I'm so sorry to hear this, I hope he finds a better job soon. Could you apply for WIC or food benefits since your income will be lower now? That would help witht he food budget.
Don't know if you'd be interested but www.workplacelike.com is a forum that has leads for work at home jobs
awwwww, I'm sorrry. I will say that you are in good company here, as there have been several of us whose hubbys have lost their job or beed laid off. Mine lost his in June........it;s brighter on the other side, trust me! In the meantime, you are just going to have to hang on reallllll tight.

My suggestion: go apply for everything you can. You will most definitely be able to get HEAP, WIC and medicaid at least for you - being pregnant. (maybe for the whole family too. You may even qualify for some food stamps.
Once he goes back to work? or gets new job you may still qualify for these. In NY state, with a family of 5 (or soon to be) you can get HEAP and Medicaid (for pregnant women and children under 1) as long as you make less than $4100 a month. WIC is $859 a week - that's everywhere. The kids may qualify for Schip in your state. With making $700 a week when dh was on strike, we were paying $9 a month per child.
I know how it feels not to have control of finances, When dh was on strike and he was only getting $300 strike benefit a week it was a little scary. I was pregnant and due in a few months so I couldn't get a job. plus we had dd who was 12 months old. But it alll worked out. Dh didn't go back to the old job - he got a better one. He's losing a $1 an hour but benefits are a little cheaper and once he's not training anymore he'll be on weekend shift 7pm-7am which will make getting his classes in easier.
Everything will be ok and your family will be even closer together.
Will keep you in our thoughts here! You take care of YOU! Keep the stress to a minimum, go find out what benefits you're eligable for and GET THEM, that's what they're there for!
