Default Lost My Car

I have had this car for almost 2 years and thought I had it paid off and they have never came and tried to get it or sent me any letters, well I went this morning before weather got bad to try and renew my tags , they expre march 15th, well they said they cannot renew those tags because the car lot had did something with a lean on the car and I have to pay almost 1200.00 to get them renewed!! Now why the heck have they not contacted me. They know where I am and my mom has even took her car to their shop for some work!! The mechanic is the youth pasture at my church! So I called my hubby , he is a truck driver and out on a long haul, he just said that come march 15th we have no car! I guess I will be doing my part for the earth and saving money that i would have spent for gas. that car is not worth 100.00! Now I just hope it warms up so I can walk places.

I'm confused...didn't you get the title transferred into your name right after you bought the car? If so, I would have thought any liens would have come up then.

kind of , it was registered in my name and the title was still in the leanholders name, I was under the impression that I would get it after paying it off. I bought the car at a local used car lot for 3500.00, paid 800.00 down, and 200.00 a month for almost 2 years, which is way more than I owed. Every time I would go in to pay on the car and ask for a new total she would just tell me that I still owed a few more payments. So on my own I went through all of the paper work and reciepts and called the owner and he said that yes it was pad off and I need to call the woman over the car lot to get her to meet me at the license branch to get title done in my name etc, well she never would meet me and now find out that 6 months ago she had turned the lien in or what ever it it they do. I really do not care because the car has been giving me trouble , it it just the idea that she always knew where to get in touch with me and then I do not know what this thing is saying that I owe even more. I paid well over 4000.00 for a 3500.00 car. This is the first car I ever bought at a car lot, i have always just bought cars from private owners, paid them, signed it into my name, so I really do not understand this too much. My hubby, just cannot really understand what is going on either and with him gone I probably wont be able to do anything until he gets home. The car lot is about 20 miles from where I live. I have been on the phone all morning trying to call them and I guess maybe because of the horrible weather they are not in their office.

I would go back to taht car lot and explain things. Either it was an honest mistake, or they are trying to pull something shady. If that is the case, report them to your BBB, and let it be known through the town you live in not to trust them.

I hope you still have those receipts. Otherwise, do not drive that car to the dealership/car lot or they may confiscate it. If you have the receipts, then you can just take them and your original contract up to the car lot and that will 'prove' that you have paid it off. They can either then drive up to the dmv with you, which I could recommend or you can have them sign over the title to you and release the lein. Make sure you have them do that before you leave their premises. Then you will get your original title in the mail without the lein holders name on it, just yours. Definitely do not trust this woman and let her get by with just saying she'll take care of it because she doesn't deserve your trust anymore since she has proven not to be trusted. Good luck and hope you can fix this. Otherwise, you are shown as still owing them money and they can turn that over to a credit bureau or even sue you for the balance that she is saying is still due.

I should have worded it differently...I meant didn't you try to transfer the title after you paid it off? I guess I'm just confused as to why the terms of the contract are so unclear. I would have thought everything would have been spelled out in the paperwork.

When you paid the car off you didn't receive a payoff notice in the mail? Sounds like something is really strange with this situation. Generally, when you buy a car off the lot, they automatically have a lien but your name is on the title too. When the car is paid off, they either send you a slip to attach to your title or you go in & have them sign off their rights to the car in the space provided on the title.

Do you have a title to the car in your possession?

Me too.
You bought a car from a car lot. You put 800 down and financed the rest? Your contract should clearly state the interest rate and how many payments there would be. You paid at the lot each month?? Do you have reciepts? I'd call the owner back and not mess with the dumb woman who keeps giving you the run around. Demand the title or get the AG office involved. You don't just have to give up your car if you have proof it is paid for. You do have proof, right???

Yea, this sounds really fishy. Find all receipts and paperwork you have on the car. I would be calling the better business bureau about them. Also, one the of local news channels around looks into stuff like this. Maybe you could give it a try in your area.

Hope everything works out for you.

Take your contract and reciepts to a lawyer and explain the situation and get his advice. This sounds really shady to me.

If you paid $4000 for a $3500 car for 2 years that's $500 in interest ,that's crazy. There is no way I'd let them have that car back and that woman is a crook. If you let them have it back it means you were just renting that car and paid way too much rent for it since you said it's not worth anything.Even if it's not worth much they would never get it back from me I'd take a sledge hammer to it first.Like the others said get hold of the car lot owner only talk to him and if he dosen't sign off the lean I'd say my lawyer told me I have a lawsuit here.I wish I was close to you I'd straighten it out for you I'm the one my family always calls on to take care of things for them.I always had to do everything for my ex husband he was such a pu**y he was afraid to open his mouth but I never have been with something like this. Believe me these people are just trying to run over you and cheat you.Don't let them do it.One time a car parts store gave my DD BF the wrong fan for his truck he put it on it came off tore up bunch stuff on the motor ,he called them told him too bad not our fault, he then called me, I took care of it.I called parts store asked for manager told him what happened ,he said nothing I can do about it.I said ok then I have unlimited long distance and I don't work so I'm going to get Kansas City,St.Joseph and all the phone books I can find call every number in them and tell everyone all about your store's and how you cheat people. He said mamm you bring the fan and all the parts it tore up back and I'll replace all of them.

That sucks so bad. That is why I always saved for my car's and just bought them right out. I hate when stuff like that happens to people. It sucks when it seams like it's your fault and it's not in anyway. I hope something gets done because that is not right in anyway.
