Ha! Love it!
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

What a great article, I like her take on the "new" economy. I like her bean aisle description. I think many more people need to see what she sees, what we all see here on Frugal Village. I agree with this lady, I would much rather clip coupons and budget then worry about the house I don't have and can't afford and just be happy knowing I can't afford it, and that's that. I need to look around and enjoy my cozy apartment and stock pile. I also need to appreciate the family I have and my grandma, because she's my only grandparent left and maybe the last link in the family to a time when the economy was simpler and the world wasn't so fast paced

Thanks for the article- it was really good. I'll have to go cook up some lentil or split pea soup with the dried beans that I have.
I've learned to like being poor (not necessarily destitute, but being on a tight budget) because I get to be so creative with things. And finding stuff really cheap is a favorite hobby.

Wish I could get DH to eat beans. That said I recently started stocking up on beans myself.
I think this is going to be a growing trend as long as the prices keep rising. I use to just keep a bag of something. I currently have 4 bags of lentils, 2 lbs of split peas, 4 bags of black-eyed-peas, and 1 bag of great northern beans. Her prices though are less than they are around here on the beans though.

What an enjoyable article! I agree.... a recession may be what this country needs to make Americans appreciate the simpler things in life.

I thought her bean prices were on the low side, compared to prices where I am. She is a funny writer, though. I enjoyed the article.

I already have a bunch of dried beans. I think I've been saving them for hard times. Getting close to that now, esp with the price of black beans - I did buy a big bag of those.

I loved this article too .. now if I could just get my hubby to like beans!!! There are certian dishes that I have been adding more rice too and less hamburger .. but there is only so much I can do that too ... but if things get worse I might have to add a little hamburger to the rice dish sigh .. and call that main course! (which I wouldn't mind but the rest would)
