Growing up in the late 60's/early 70's kith
Anyone else grow up during this time and have fond memories of it?
If so, want to share them?
Some of the things I remember are:
- Being in love with David Cassidy, Donny Osmond and Bobby Sherman
- Playing my 45's
Specific ones that come to mind right now are:
- Smile a little, smile for me Rosemarie
- I think I love you
- Puppy Love
- Leaving on a Jet plane
- Sugar Sugar
- Bang-shang-a-lang
- Joy to the World
- Shambala
Putting silly putty on the Sunday comics and getting the picture on the silly putty.
My mom getting some of our Christmas presents with green stamps!
There's so much more but it's 2:30 in the morning and I'm getting tired so that's it for now.
Come on gals [or guys!], tell us what you remember about growing up in this time period.
Love,
Jen

Oh, yeah! And Davy Jones! 'course there were some downsides too - like I never looked anything like Marcia Brady.
Do you also remember an afternoon show (soap?) called "Dark Shadows"? Spending Sunday afternoons with the family watching Marlon Perkins Wild Kingdom followed by the Wonderful World of Disney?
Playing "Puppy Love" on the jukebox, and a few years later "Seasons in the Sun" - and crying to it? Boy! I actually WAS young once upon a time!

Oh, my brother and I watched Dark Shadows. We also watched Laugh-In and Love American Style. I like the Partridge Family and had a Partridge Family lunch box! Wish I still had it. We did the Silly Putty thing with the comics, too! Speed Racer was another favorite and Ultra Man! Anyone remember that?
We only had the one TV in our home. We could only pick up 3 local stations, two Public Broadcast Stations and we had one of those rooftop antennas. My Dad was always sending us out to turn the antenna to get better reception. LOL! We had UHF and VHF. We could pick up 3 or 4 other stations on the VHF. The TV had a dial that you had to get up and change... no remote controls.
I can't remember for sure the years for these shows but we liked to watch the Variety Shows like Sonny and Cher, Donny and Marie, Flip Wilson, Tony Orlando and Dawn, the Carol Burnette Show.... oh and The Monkees. And what about the Banana Split Show.
We played outside a LOT and stayed gone all day and didn't even have a cell phone to keep in touch with our parents LOL. Rode bikes... without helmets. Had BB guns. Had a rope swing, a tire swing and a swing set with the two swings, a slide and the see saw.
Definitely remember those 45s. I still have most of mine. And LPs. My DDs are like, what the heck are those?
Ahhhh... memories.

All those stupid Elvis movies.....I still love em.
Do you remember Baby I Love You by Andy Kim? Oh how I love that song.....
Dark Shadows fan.....absolutely. Bewitched too. Now if my kids had loved those shows I'd have been sure they were Satan worshippers....
Slinkies, Hula Hoops, lime green nail polish, bell bottom jeans, fringed, suede vests, Sun In....Oh and skinny eyebrows....anyone do that without permission?

I remember getting my first 8 track tape player....do you guys remember that?

I remember watching Dark Shadows after school. It came on after General Hospital. (My mom watched GH every day.)
I remember the Sunday night lineup. Stores were closed on Sunday, so snacks HAD to be homemade.
How about the Saturday morning shows? Sid & Marty Krofft's H.R. Pufnstuf and Land of the Lost? I have a co-worker that strongly resembles Witchiepoo!
I had an 8-track player in my first car - a used 1973 AMC Gremlin! Remember David Gates and Bread and BTO?
I haven't changed much.
I still love peasant shirts and Dr. Scholl's sandals, keep my blonde hair kinda wild and maintain the free spirit.
Great kith!

Van Morrison Brown Eyed Girl. I had one of the first portable record players that was really portable....ran on battery. My records were really small and they called them hip pocket records. By the time I was 16 my parents had bought me a 65 mustang and had an 8 track player put in it. I remember hauling my girlfirends around with Paul McCartney's Band on the Run tape in it.....oh those were the days!!!!

My first 45 was "Crimson and Clover", I forget what was on the other side of it.
My first album was Rolling Stones' "Flowers". I still love the Stones.
I watched Dark Shadows every day after school, in Jr HS.
I was a Junior in HS when "Stairway to Heaven" came out.
I was sitting in 4th grade class when they announced that Kennedy had been killed.
We watched Mr. Ed, My Favorite Martian, Rawhide, Mission Impossible, Wild Wild West....... My bff was crazy about Robert Conrad.
My littlest bro started watching Sesame Street when it came out in....1969? Not sure.______

]
I want to post more but don't have the time right now but will do so later on sometime [hopefully today but if not ... soon!]
Quick question for now - do any of you remember something called something called Squirmin Herman?
I'll attach a pic on here so you can see what I mean.
I had one and it was pink and I'm guessing I must have really loved it 'cuz it's one of my fondest memories from when I was younger [I'm pretty sure this was during my pre teen-idol period. *lol*]
Love,
Jen

I spent alot of time at the movies ~ Saturdays they would show monster movies all afternoon

I remember fighting with my Mom because she wouldn't let me go see Valley of the Dolls ~ I was only 11 at the time, LOL! I don't know what she thought was going to happen to me
I remember Charlie Manson, Archie comics, not having to come in until the street lights came on, troll dolls, rotary phones, princess phones, no a/c.
I can remember the first time we were allowed to wear pants to school ~ and they couldn't be jeans!
My parents never knew where we were ~ we would hop on our bikes and go from one end of the city to the other
We just generally drove our parents nuts ~ I loved it!Nancy

Oh, thank you for all the memories!
I loved Davy Jones for years... snuck watching Dark Shadows every chance I could get.... remember penny candy at the corner store... wore white go-go boots with my brownie uniform (I have a picture of me wearing the combo with my beagle), ran through the neighborhood all day and didn't come home until meals or dark... night games with the neighborhood kids... listened to my 45's on my own little record player in my room. Ahhh.... those were the years.Sandy

OMG! I remember most of these things. I was born in 1965. I really do remember that the stores would be closed on Sundays and then they opened for a while, but were always closed in the evenings. My dad always told us to buy gas before the holidays because nothing would be open! How funny is that? To this day, when a holiday is coming up, I still think I need to buy gas!
Donny Osmond was my first "love". David Cassidy and then Shaun Cassidy were close second and third.
The Walton's were my favorites! Goodnight JohnBoy!
