Hello anglophiles

I'm also a huge fan of England (and also British TV). I was recently in London for the first time and was BLOWN AWAY by how friendly, funny and polite people are. In London in the space of a few hours, I was called my dear, love, and gorgeous
This is a stark contrast to the atmosphere where I live (in Germany for the past 4 years), where in general people only speak to me to let me know what, in their opinion, I am doing wrong. Relocating to London in 4 years is the new dream!
RE: Brit TV, I love BBC Nature docs (especially Attenborough ones). They are just gorgeous and so relaxing. Other great Brit shows are:
How to Look Good Naked (or anything with Gok Wan, he just did a frugal fashion series as well: Gok Wan's Clothes Roadshow). More than just a makeover show, the women learn to forgive, love and celebrate their bodies.
Embarrassing Bodies: kinda gross if you are squeamish, but people see doctors with medical questions, and you see how they are treated. Sounds awful, but I learn a lot every time I watch
The Food Hospital: This is a new one and is FANTASTIC. I highly recommend viewing to anyone interested in the impact food can have on your body.
And finally, my guilty pleasure is The World's Strictest Parent's. I'm a sucker for a reality show happy ending, and the families these kids get sent to are great!
Cheers to everyone here and Happy Christmas!

I know this is an old thread, but I am a HUGE Anglophile! I own many of the series listed here, plus a few more, like Black Adder, Rising Damp, Lovejoy, and Fawlty Towers. Gave my dad the complete Benny Hill series for Christmas (more of a joke, though).
There is a wonderful moneysaving website that is huge in England, and even though I just lurk due to a somewhat anti-American attitude on some of the boards, I have learned a great deal. Plus it satisfies my thirst for English everyday life. Money Saving Expert: Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more The forums are my favorites. They discuss current events, along with moneysaving, old-style ideas. I can spend hours there!Last edited by Booklover; 12-28-2011 at 10:49 PM.

Money Saving Expert is a great site, like anywhere there are some rather daft people there but the Debt-Free Wannabe and Old Style Boards have some nice posters and are generally friendly.
Should any of you be interested in a British forum for housewives or people who are working towards being at home then I can point you in the right direction. It's an offshoot of the money saving expert boards and has quite a few frugal types there. Anyone can pm me if they're interested.

I love British novels (Jane Austen fan), and British television too. I like the Prime Suspect series with Helen Mirren. I recently discovered the Cracker murder mystery series with Robbie Coltrane (not the American version of Cracker). I was so sad when I finished all three seasons. After watching that series, I'd love to visit Manchester.

Yes, England is lovely. I've been a couple times to London (and its environs) and am going to Scotland and London again this spring.
I love London. It's my favorite city. So green and quiet and beautiful architecture and the people are so nice and it's dripping with history (my favorite.)
Looking forward to Scotland as I hear it's absolutely beautiful. We're going to Loch Ness. When I get a picture of Nessie I will post it!
Also loved the Jane Austen books. Also loved the Rosamunde Pilcher books (can she set a scene or what?) and would love to find some authors similar to her style now that she's no longer writing. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Speaking of British shows has anyone else watched Super Scrimpers? I loved the ones I watched.
