liberal Christians?- I CAN'T be the only one!
I am so tired of defending myself politically to my religous friends and spiritually to my secular friends... being a democrat and being a Christian are NOT mutually exclusive!

liberal tree hugging environmentalist mormon here
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
"i create prosperity, abundance, and savings for me and my household"

Elphie - I understand you.
I am a Christian and liberal (for the most part). I did register republican but vote how I see fit. I see voting for president as a picking of the "lesser of 2 evils". So far from everything I have seen, I will be voting McCain/Palin. Unless I see an independent that blows my socks off, that is. I do not like some of the stuff Obama has said and I have read about him.
I don't feel that people should judge us though.
I am getting more into "living green" and helping our planet. I don't have much money to buy some of the "green" things I would like either.
One thing that I do and people look at me like I am crazy - we get food stamps BUT I use manufacturer coupons. I have had cashiers say "You don't need those, food stamps are paying the bill". I still think of the food stamps as $ and I will stretch it as far as I can.
so, you aren't alone.

I belong to the UCC. It's slightly more conservative than Unitarian. And I'm pretty solidly on the left side of the political divide.

This confuses me. Since when is caring for the earth not a Godly thing to do? Am I missing something?

I have to say, I am more liberal than many of the Christian people I have been raised with, but I would no more call myself a democrat than I would a republican. Both sides have rights and wrongs, good and bad, smart and not so smart thoughts...I just wish they both had more common sense.

Definitely a Democrat, sister to a gay man, pro-choice, aspiring environmentalist, and, yes, a Christian, too.

Why does being green, being pro-choice, gay supporter make you a liberal?
I have always been more green than those around me. My Cherokee dad and family saw to that.
What I can do with my body is my choice and it should be every woman's choice, but for me, abortion is wrong. But I will not stand and tell any woman what she can or can't do with her body.
I have an "adopted" son who is gay. My best friend IRL is gay.
But I am a conservative. I know that this sounds contradictory, but it's not.

redhead, all i was saying, is that just because you are those things, does not make you a liberal or a conservative. it makes you human.
i have values and morals, but so does most every other person on this earth.
i tend to have more of the conservative values, but i can see the other side of things also.
i try not to get into political debates with people in real life, because they tend to get rather emotional for me. i like to talk politics, but not when someone who has a different idea than i do, tries to cram their thoughts and such down my throat and tries to make me feel like i am in the wrong because of how i feel.
sorry. got off on a tangent there.
i was not bashing you, i was saying that just because a person cares about gays, is green, is pro-choice, they don't have to be a liberal.Last edited by Moor; 09-03-2008 at 06:05 PM. Reason: missed a word.
