I am 1/16th Chippewa on my moms side. My grandpa looked native and my mom and her siblings all had darker hair but light skin and blue eyes.
Then my mom married my dad, who was born in Holland and none of us look native. Some of us have the bone structure but all have very light skin.
Out of the three biological kids one sister has light brown hair, one has blonde and I have red. All my kids have very pale skin and are blonde or redheads. All with blue eyes.

The only one in the family who looks native is my younger brother. He was adopted at birth and is full native. I believe he is from one of the Salish tribes in BC.

You should see the looks we get when people find out he is our brother. It is very amusing. People must be thinking my mom was having an affair. LOL

I am part the exact amount is still an investigation in progress. I don't know if any of you have tried to trace your Indian bloodlines, but it can just about make you pull out your hair.

I know what you mean, I tried for years to find "concrete" evidence, but considering that most of my dad's family came from way up in the mountains, a lot of them never even had records of their birth, death, anything, so it made it close to impossible. I know that I am 1/16 Blackfoot on my mother's side (that at least is documented), and I am 1/4 Saponi on my dad's side. There is also the rumor of Cherokee on my dad's side, but that is such a common phrase around our area, that there is no way to know for sure.

I am Native American. My father is Blackfoot from Montana and my mother is Naragansette (Rhode Island).
I live in an area that everyone says they are some part Cherokee. What gets me is that everyone thinks that Natives all look alike. I am sorry but the textbooks only took a few pictures and they were very very old. My name...Sinopa means little fox.
My husband is Native as well, but from Mexico. Of course, we all know that Natives were forced to move. He still speaks his tribal language as his father, grandfather, etc refused to learn French and Spanish. So my children and Natives....full blooded.
We don't have the quantum blood test as many talk about. There are chiefs who have said that being Native isn't like white mans rules about what race is this or that but the life you live. Being Native will come out like how we respect our Mother Earth, how we treat animals, water, the air. How we treat each other and how we relate to what is around you. Look up the Native American Commandments. Then look at your life and then you will know what being a Native American.

There is a family rumor that we are part Native American, but do not know what tribe. I remember as a child seeing an old photo of one of my ancestors with a Native woman in tribal dress. My great-grandfather was asked at one time if we were, he refused to answer, would not deny or admit. He grew up in the late 1800's at a time when it was still considered shameful to have indian blood. Based on this we feel it is true but really wish we could find some sort of documentation to prove it. I do have two step-brothers who are 1/2 Northern Cheyenne out of the Ashland, Montana tribe.

Isn't that something how things change?? At one time it was shameful to be native but now people are trying to find out if they have native blood in them.
