I love antiques! I really love history, especially personal things. My FIL is a dealer and my MIL works at an antique flea market. Dh and I have a lot of unique items. I like thinking about who might've owned them before. Its like an emotional connection to a past I wasn't even there for

We have a house that is over 100 years old and are slowly picking up antiques to place in it. I have some pieces from my grandparents I wouldnt ever part with! And a few I have bought. I was a hairstylist for 20 years and I have collected the old wave irons you had to heat in the stove and I have all my grandfathers old straight razors and the leather strap to sharpen them! I love antiques and hunting for them is part of the fun!

I agree with this very much. I "collected" things for use in my house from different generations for the first few years of doing this and I still upgrade when I found the things I want for dirt cheap. I picked things that called out to me. I don't keep the perfect, those we sell....I have too much respect for those things..they belong on a shelf to represent that time...while I am not a shabby chic or chippy type person, I tend to keep the things that do have some wear because that shows it was used and I love looking at them and wondering who used them, if this was something they really liked, what their family was like, etc.

If you walk into our house, it looks like someone's grandparent's home might look like as they collected what they liked over the years.

I didn't want one era, I didn't want print ad Coke Cola, I didn't want perfect mid century modern, 50's diner, colonial, country french, etc..I wanted what the American home usually looks like over time....eclectic, homey vintage feel, and everything was hand picked because we really liked it .....this is why I love being home so much. LOL

And believe me, when you purposely call over 400 homes and look at over 150 that are SUPPOSED to be old homes and usually hear something like" Oh yes, the house was built in 1952 but we recently pulled out all those nasty stainless steel cabinets and starburst countertops and put in oak cabinets and granite countertops to make it look great".....all you want to do is cry.....I love my home...it is as old as my stuff. lol

I could go crazy for vintage glassware. Jadite is my main obsession, but I also love pink depression glass and Fiestaware. And I really, really want a set of Pyrex mixing bowls in primary colors.
